Registered Respiratory Therapist Fulltime

Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive cardiopulmonary care to patients across a variety of service lines and clinical settings. This role is responsible for assessing, treating, and monitoring patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions using evidence‑based practices, advanced medical equipment, and therapeutic interventions. Respiratory Therapists may support multiple service lines, including NICU, MICU, SICU, Neuro ICU, CVICU and Adult Acute Care (Non‑ICU). The therapist collaborates closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered respiratory care throughout the continuum of care. UT Southwestern is hiring a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) as an integral part of its clinical care team. The full‑time RRT will work collaboratively with clinical caregivers, patients, and families to improve and maintain ideal lung health for all ages (adult, geriatric, and neonatal). As a valued member of the Respiratory Care team you will apply and monitor medical gases (excluding anesthetic gases), environmental control systems, mechanical ventilatory support, artificial airway care, bronchopulmonary hygiene, pharmacologic agents related to respiratory care procedures, and limited cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Responsibilities Administer therapy according to departmental policies and procedures, demonstrating decision‑making skills in patient assessment and plan of care. Assist in writing procedures or giving in‑services as needed; perform technical procedures and operate equipment with high level of expertise. Maintain knowledge of equipment and ordered patient therapeutics; assess patient and family knowledge deficits regarding cardiopulmonary anatomy and pharmacology. Adhere to departmental administrative procedures, ensuring error‑free patient charge entry, timely SBAR shift reports, accurate documentation and EMR order management. Perform charge‑therapist duties as assigned, including cost‑effective use of disposable supplies and equipment. Report patient care and equipment issues to charge therapist and seek assistance when appropriate; attend 90% of departmental and town‑hall meetings. Manage and maintain supplies and equipment across the hospital; report repair needs to biomedical services. Participate in Quality Assurance activities and foster teamwork by facilitating two‑way communication and maintaining a collaborative attitude. Follow hospital attendance policies, including self‑scheduling, vacation and holiday rotation. Experience and Education Two (2) years of critical‑care experience preferred. A.A.S. graduate of an accredited respiratory care program (Bachelor’s degree preferred). License by the Texas Medical Board. Registered by the NBRC (RRT). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association. Specialty areas may require additional certification or licensing.
