Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Certified Surgical Tech

Position Overview

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) supports sterile technique and instrument handling in the operating room across surgical specialties, ensuring asepsis and efficiency.

You work as part of the surgical team to anticipate instrument needs, maintain sterile fields, and facilitate safe procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the sterile field and arrange instruments and supplies for procedures
• Assist surgeons by passing instruments and retractors as needed
• Maintain aseptic technique and monitor sterile barriers
• Count sponges, needles, and instruments with the team to prevent retention
• Assist with positioning, draping, and specimen handling
• Document intraoperative actions and instrument usage
• Assist with OR turnover and room readiness for subsequent cases
• Follow safety protocols and report any breaches or issues

Qualifications

Education:

Completion of an approved surgical tech program

Licensure:

Certification as CST is required in most settings

Certifications:

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
• BLS

Experience or Skills:

Experience in an operating room or sterile processing environment; strong teamwork

Experience

• Experience as a CST in multiple surgical specialties
• Experience assisting in diverse operative procedures

Preferred

• Experience with robotics or advanced instrumentation

Work Environment

Operating room with regular on-call for emergent cases

Fast-paced intraoperative setting requiring precision and communication
