The Fresno County Department of Child Support Services invites applications for the position of Child Support Attorney I/II/III . Incumbents perform professional legal services in the preparation and litigation of a variety of child support matters; and perform related work as required. Incumbents assigned to the Child Support Attorney II/III levels are expected to handle a more complex caseload and exercise greater independence.
Remote Work Availability: This position allows for limited remote work opportunities. Some exceptions to remote work apply and may include court appearances and necessary in-office work.

Child Support Attorney I-
Description:
Under immediate supervision, performs professional legal services in the preparation and litigation of a variety of child support matters; and performs related work as required.
The Department of Child Support Services, headed by the Director of Child Support Services, is responsible for the Child Support Enforcement Program, authorized under Title IV-D of the Social Security Act, and various provisions of California law. The Department provides services to assist parents in the establishment of parent-child relationships and in their mutual obligation to financially support and provide health insurance for their child(ren).
Child Support Attorney I is the entry level classification in the Child Support Attorney classification series and is responsible for performing professional legal services in the preparation and litigation of a variety of child support matters. This class differs from Child Support Attorney II in that the latter classification functions with greater latitude and exercises a higher degree of independent judgment.

- Represents the Department in less complex issues involving child support cases, including, but not limited to, establishing paternity, establishing child support and medical support orders, and enforcement of those orders.
- Interviews litigants and witnesses in regard to parentage and child support matters.
- Advises Department staff regarding legal issues involved in the preparation of child support cases.
- Studies, interprets, and applies laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities in the preparation of cases and briefs.
- Prepares pleadings, judgments, reports and other necessary correspondence in connection with civil child support actions, trials, hearings, and other legal proceedings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Civil and criminal codes related to California family law;
- Administrative law procedures;
- Legal research methods;
- Rules of evidence;
- Ethical and professional rules of conduct.
Skills/Abilities to:
- Analyze and apply legal principles and precedents to complex legal problems;
- Present statements of law, facts, and arguments clearly, logically and forcefully, both in written and oral format;
- Maintain confidentiality and objectivity;
- Operate and use personal computer applications used by the Department;
- Effectively present and conduct trials;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Minimum Qualifications:
License: Active membership, in good standing, with the State Bar of California.
Note: Incumbents must obtain and maintain Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance as a condition of employment.
Child Support Attorney II-
Description

The Department of Child Support Services, headed by the Director of Child Support Services, is responsible for the Child Support Enforcement Program, authorized under Title IV-D of the Social Security Act, and various provisions of California law. The Department provides services to assist parents in the establishment of parent-child relationships and in their mutual obligation to financially support and provide health insurance for their child(ren).
Child Support Attorney II is the second level in the Child Support Attorney classification series and is responsible for performing professional legal services in the preparation and litigation of a variety of child support matters. The class is distinguished from Child Support Attorney I by having greater latitude in the preparation and litigation of child support cases and by the greater difficulty of cases handled. This class is distinguished from the next higher class of Child Support Attorney III in that the latter classification functions under only general direction on more complex cases.

Under general direction, performs professional legal services in the preparation and litigation of child support matters; and performs related work as required.
The Department of Child Support Services, headed by the Director of Child Support Services, is responsible for the Child Support Enforcement Program, authorized under Title IV-D of the Social Security Act, and various provisions of California law. The Department provides services to assist parents in the establishment of parent-child relationships and in their mutual obligation to financially support and provide health insurance for their child(ren).
Child Support Attorney III is the third level in the Child Support Attorney classification series and is responsible for performing professional legal services in the preparation and litigation of a variety of child support matters. This class is distinguished from that of Child Support Attorney II by the greater difficulty of child support cases and matters handled and the greater independence of operation assumed. The higher classification in the series, Child Support Attorney IV, has responsibility for the preparation and litigation of all phases of Title IV-D cases.
