Ryan Law NY LLC is a growing New York matrimonial and family law practice focused on helping clients navigate divorce through efficient, practical, and resolution-oriented legal services.

Our firm currently concentrates on uncontested and joint divorces, negotiated settlement agreements, and divorce mediation. As our practice continues to grow, we are expanding into contested matrimonial matters.

We are seeking an experienced New York matrimonial litigation attorney to work with our firm on an independent-contractor basis, with the opportunity to develop a long-term professional relationship as this practice area expands.

This is not simply an overflow position. We are looking for an experienced litigation attorney who can become an integral part of our firm's contested matrimonial practice.

Position Overview

The selected attorney will be responsible for independently managing assigned contested matrimonial cases, including litigation strategy, financial disclosure, motion practice, settlement negotiations, court appearances, and client communication.

The attorney will work in association with Ryan Law NY LLC, represent clients through the firm, and appear in court under the firm's name, subject to applicable professional responsibility requirements.

Our firm will provide client intake, administrative support, billing, and case management resources, allowing the attorney to focus primarily on the substantive legal work.

Initial assignments may involve limited-scope matrimonial litigation, financial disclosure, and negotiation, with opportunities to handle more substantial contested matters as the practice develops.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage contested matrimonial matters from initial assessment through settlement or litigation.
• Develop case strategies and advise clients regarding their legal rights and available options.
• Prepare and respond to pleadings, motions, discovery demands, and other litigation documents.
• Handle financial disclosure, equitable distribution, maintenance, child support, and related matrimonial issues.
• Represent clients at preliminary conferences, compliance conferences, hearings, and other court proceedings.
• Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel and work toward practical, cost-effective resolutions.
• Maintain direct communication with clients and opposing counsel.
• Provide realistic case assessments, estimated legal budgets, and regular status updates.
• Coordinate with the firm's principal attorney and administrative staff to ensure efficient case management.

Qualifications

• Active admission to the New York State Bar and good standing.
• At least seven years of substantial matrimonial litigation experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to independently handle contested divorce cases.
• Strong knowledge of New York matrimonial law, equitable distribution, maintenance, child support, and financial discovery.
• Experience appearing in New York Supreme Court matrimonial proceedings, preferably in New York City and surrounding counties.
• Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, litigation, and client communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines and cases independently.
• Professional liability insurance strongly preferred; coverage arrangements must be confirmed before assignments begin.
• Existing solo practitioners and attorneys maintaining independent practices are encouraged to apply.
  

Compensation and Work Arrangement

Hourly compensation: $150–$200, depending on experience, qualifications, and insurance arrangements.

Location and Court Appearances

This position is primarily remote, with in-person court appearances as required.

Candidates should be available to appear in New York Supreme Courts in the five New York City boroughs, Nassau County, and Suffolk County, as applicable.

Experience practicing in Richmond, Kings, New York, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties is particularly desirable.

Applicants should identify the counties in which they regularly practice and are available to make court appearances.
