Surgical AssistantThe surgical assistant is responsible for assisting the surgeon under direct and indirect supervision throughout preoperative, intraoperative and post-operative duties and procedures at all times.Job duties include:Demonstrating the organization's mission and core valuesAdhering to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical informationFacilitating the safe positioning of the patientAssisting in preparation of the patientPerforming specific tasks according to individual surgeon preferenceApplying dressing material specific to procedurePerforming under surgeon supervision other proceduresPracticing performance improvement standardsEvaluating the patient's response to care deliveredApplying theoretical knowledge of asepsis, wound healing, infectious diseases process, surgical anatomy and physiology, safety issues and operative techniquesPerforming additional duties as delegated by the surgeon or facilityJob specifications and core competencies include:Graduate from an accredited surgical assisting programCSFA, CSA, or SA-C certification required2 years in operating room as a surgical technologist or current certificationKnowledge of operating room and patient safety proceduresInitiative and creativity in fulfilling the professional roleEffective participation on surgical team, in safety and infection control procedures and in equipment maintenanceOur commitment is rooted in our mission and core values, honoring the dignity of every person and recognizing the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents each colleague brings.
