Job Title: Marine Electrician
Job Description
This role focuses on performing complex electrical work in a marine shipyard environment, including reading and interpreting technical documentation, troubleshooting electrical systems, and supporting cable installation on vessels. You will apply strong electrical theory knowledge to maintain and refurbish shipboard electrical systems while ensuring safe and reliable operations.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret work specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, and electrical schematics to plan and execute tasks accurately.
- Troubleshoot complex problems on shipboard electrical equipment and systems using meters and diagnostic tools.
- Repair and refurbish electrical lighting systems, communications systems, and other shipboard systems that operate on electrical power.
- Run cabling into ships, including working cableways, multi-cable transits (MCTs), and cable routing, ensuring proper installation and organization.
- Write clear and accurate reports documenting work performed, issues identified, and corrective actions taken.
- Order required materials and components to support ongoing electrical projects and maintenance activities.
- Identify and promptly report any abnormal safety or mechanical conditions to maintain a safe working environment.
- Follow established shipyard procedures, safety guidelines, and technical standards while performing all electrical tasks.
- Collaborate with other trades and team members in the shipyard to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.
- Maintain consistent attendance and strong work ethic to support long-term project needs and continued employment.
- Eligibility to obtain DBIDS access for shipyard entry.
Why Work Here?
You will join a shipyard environment that offers full-time, steady work on significant marine projects, including high-profile vessels. The organization values strong work ethic, reliability, and technical expertise, providing opportunities for long-term engagement based on performance. You can develop and refine your marine electrical skills while working alongside experienced professionals in a structured and safety-focused setting.
Work Environment
This position is based in a shipyard environment, including locations such as Portsmouth Marine Terminal, Little Creek, and NOB, with work on major vessels such as the Ford-class ships. You will work in an industrial marine setting that involves ships, piers, and yard facilities, often requiring movement through confined spaces, ladders, and uneven surfaces.
