Research Scientist - Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Research Scientist - Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics at its Detroit campus location. Essential Functions (Job Duties) Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, provide scientific and technical assistance to complete laboratory‑based, clinical or population science research; may assist in writing research protocols and manuscript preparation. Design and perform research protocols independently or under training for more difficult procedures. Assist with locating and writing research grants; coordinate correspondence with applicants and grantees, acknowledge receipt of proposals, and maintain a system to track proposals. Perform laboratory‑based scientific techniques or clinical/population science (human subjects) research. Design and perform experiments, recruit participants for studies by developing surveys and interviewing candidates. Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines. Assist staff with experiments and research protocols as required. Communicate with the Principal Investigator and Postdoctoral scholars/fellows on the status of research. Collect and log laboratory results, clinical outcomes and/or survey data. Evaluate and perform data analysis using graphs, charts or tables to highlight key points. Proofread and edit research data and documents to ensure accuracy. Prepare and present presentations regarding research project results for professional, scientific and academic conferences. Summarize and organize data results for submission to peer‑reviewed journals. Write scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication. Fact‑check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy. Maintain laboratory work areas, routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work station. Perform other related duties as assigned. Unique Duties Conduct research at the interface of genomics, machine learning, and maternal‑fetal medicine. Assist in writing research protocols and manuscript preparation. Find and write research grants; coordinate correspondence with applicants and grantees; maintain proposals tracking system. Perform laboratory‑based scientific techniques or population science research; design experiments; participate in implementing research objectives; ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and protocol guidelines. Communicate with the Principal Investigator on the status of the research. Collect and log laboratory results; evaluate and perform data analysis using Python, R, and other specialized Linux tools for genomics data. Prepare and present presentations regarding research project results for professional, scientific, and academic conferences. Summarize and organize data for submission to peer‑reviewed journals. Write scientific manuscripts and documents for publication; fact‑check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy. Maintain laboratory work areas, routine equipment maintenance, order supplies, and keep workspace clean. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: Doctorate degree. Requires advanced knowledge predominantly intellectual in character in a field of science or learning acquired by a prolonged course of specialized instruction. Experience: Minimum 2 years of job‑related experience performing basic research techniques; must have distinguished themselves in research. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to work independently; secure grants and funding; analyze, summarize, and interpret research findings; communicate results; knowledge of scientific integrity principles; excellent time management and organization; excellent interpersonal skills; Microsoft Office proficiency. Preferred Qualifications Doctorate degree in biology, statistics, computer science, or engineering. Minimum 2 years of job‑related experience; distinguished themselves in research and published at least 3 manuscripts as first author. Ability to work independently; secure grants and funding; analyze, summarize, and interpret findings; knowledge of scientific integrity principles; excellent time management and organization; excellent interpersonal skills; knowledge in genomics data analysis, statistics, and maternal‑fetal medicine.
