Position Title - Sports Coach - Youth Development ProfessionalReports To - Site DirectorPay Range - $17-$20 per hour – 25 hours per weekPosition SummaryThe Youth Sports Coach is responsible for organizing and leading youth sports teams, conducting daily practices, teaching sport-specific skills, and supporting the athletic and personal development of Club members. The coach creates a positive, structured environment where youth learn teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, and healthy competition.This position serves as a mentor and role model while overseeing team formation, player development, league participation, practices, and games. The Youth Sports Coach plays a key role in ensuring every member has an opportunity to improve, compete, and build confidence through sports.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeam Organization & AdministrationRecruit and organize youth into teams based on age, skill level, and program goals.Maintain team rosters, attendance records, and player participation information.Coordinate practice schedules, game schedules, and tournament participation.Communicate with parents, staff, officials, and community partners regarding team activities.Assist with equipment inventory, distribution, and maintenance.Coaching & Skill DevelopmentPlan and conduct daily practices that focus on skill development, conditioning, and game preparation.Teach sport-specific fundamentals, including proper techniques, rules, and strategies.Provide individualized coaching and constructive feedback to help participants improve.Develop age-appropriate drills and training activities that promote skill progression.Prepare athletes for league play, competitions, and special events.Evaluate player growth and adjust instruction to meet participant needs.Game & Competition ManagementCoach teams during games, scrimmages, and tournaments.Teach teamwork, effort, sportsmanship, and respect for officials and opponents.Manage player substitutions and participation to ensure equitable opportunities for development.Maintain a positive and encouraging team environment during practices and competitions.Address conflicts and behavioral issues in a constructive and professional manner.Positive Youth DevelopmentBuild strong, supportive relationships with youth participants.Serve as a positive role model through attitude, conduct, and professionalism.Promote confidence, perseverance, leadership, and responsibility through sports participation.Encourage youth engagement, regular attendance, and continued participation in Club programs.Help create an environment that is safe, inclusive, and welcoming for all members.Safety & Risk ManagementMaintain active supervision of youth participants at all times.Follow all BGCCNM safety policies, child protection standards, and mandatory reporting requirements.Conduct safety checks of athletic facilities and equipment.Respond appropriately to injuries, incidents, and emergencies.Ensure all activities operate in accordance with Club and league safety guidelines.SchedulePart-time, approximately 25 hours per week.Primarily before or after-school hours, school breaks, and summer programming.Occasional weekends for games, tournaments, and special events.Key Performance IndicatorsTeam participation and retention.Practice attendance rates.Youth skill development and progression.League and tournament participation.Positive youth engagement and sportsmanship.Compliance with safety and supervision standards.QualificationsRequiredHigh school diploma or GED.Minimum 18 years of age (21 preferred).Experience coaching youth sports, officiating, playing competitively, or working in recreation programs.Demonstrated ability to teach athletic skills and lead youth teams.Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.Ability to motivate and engage children and teens from diverse backgrounds.Ability to pass all required background checks.PreferredPost secondary degree or currently pursuing a degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Management, Youth Development, or related field.Previous experience coaching basketball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, baseball/softball, or other youth sports.CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.Experience with Boys & Girls Clubs programming or youth development organizations.Physical RequirementsRegular running, standing, walking, bending, and participation in athletic activities.Ability to demonstrate sports skills and drills.Ability to lift and move sports equipment up to 40 pounds.Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. #J-18808-Ljbffr
