Middle School Health Office Assistant

West Deptford School District

Qualifications:


Minimum High School Diploma; basic computer and clerical skills required; good


rapport with young people; willing to become CPR and Epi-pen certified

Building Principal and School Nurse

Job Goal:


To assist in the operation of and ensure full efficiency in the health office.

Performance Responsibilities:

Overall responsibilities

  1. Telephone: Takes incoming calls and messages; calls parents when appropriate.
  2. Maintains bulletin board and health education resource information.
  3. Sets up and puts away testing equipment.
  4. Makes appointments for parents, teachers, or pupil conferences.
  5. Handles correspondence.
  6. Distributes flyers and notices.
  7. Reviews records; obtains information for nurse's use (i.e.: immunization data).
  8. Call school for transferring medical records.
  9. Maintains supply inventory; restocks when necessary.
  10. Transcription of information to health cards and health records, as instructed by School Nurse.
  11. Assist in sending IHCP to teachers and staff.
  12. Schedule students for screenings, under direction of School Nurse.
  13. Greets and admits students and visitors to health office. Informs students of procedure as they enter health office.
  14. Maintains lists of student re-screenings and referrals.
  15. Assist in documenting sports physicals in PowerSchool and on student records.
  16. Assist in documenting PE and sport excuse notes in PowerSchool and notify PE teacher and/or coach.
  17. Records student's arrival date, time, and complaint on daily health log and refers student to nurse for treatment.
  18. Collects information for accident reports.
  19. Assists students in preparation for being sent home; helps students collect their belongings from class/locker.
  20. Assists in maintaining accurate emergency contact information and entering information in our computer database.
  21. Maintains current CPR and Epi-pen certification.
  22. When assigned by administrative staff, assists in general school clerical duties.
  23. Works regularly scheduled hours on student half days.
  24. Shall perform all other duties as assigned by School Nurse or school administration and consistent with the duties of school aide.

  1. Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
  2. Work conditions are typical office environment temperatures of 65 to 80 degrees.
  3. Work space has typical conditioned airflow ventilation found in a business office environment.
  4. Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment.
  5. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.

  1. Must be able to sit for long periods of time at an office desk.
  2. Speak and hear.
  3. Communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
  4. Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, computers, and/or controls
  5. Use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception along with the ability to focus vision.
  6. Heavy computer utilization with ability to observe a computer monitor for hours of the day is required.
  7. Minor standing time for copier utilization from time to time.
  8. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. to move office boxes when necessary.

Employment Conditions:

Contract Term: July 1st to June 30th, 10 months; student calendar; 29.5 hours per week

Salary: Discretion of the Board of Education
