Registered Nurse Clinical Manager – Outpatient Blood & Cancer / Day Hospital Department: Outpatient Blood & Cancer / Day Hospital Clinic Position: Registered Nurse Clinical Manager Schedule: Days Reports To: Nursing Leadership Cincinnati Children’s is seeking an experienced and collaborative Registered Nurse Clinical Manager to join our growing Outpatient Blood & Cancer / Day Hospital Clinic team. As the program continues to grow, this position will become the fifth Clinical Manager supporting the department and will provide dedicated leadership for a team of approximately 26.58 FTE nursing and clinical staff. The Clinical Manager will provide day‑to‑day operational and clinical leadership while partnering with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacists, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe, high‑quality, patient- and family‑centered care. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pediatric nurse leader who is passionate about oncology, hematology, staff development, quality improvement, and creating an exceptional experience for patients and families. Key Responsibilities Clinical & Operational Leadership Provide clinical and operational leadership for approximately 26.58 FTE within the Outpatient Blood & Cancer / Day Hospital Clinic. Partner with the other Clinical Managers to ensure consistent nursing practice, staffing, workflows, and patient care across the department. Oversee daily operations and ensure appropriate staffing and resource allocation based on patient volume and acuity. Promote safe, efficient, and patient-centered care delivery in a complex outpatient oncology and hematology environment. Monitor patient flow and identify opportunities to improve access, throughput, and the overall patient experience. Ensure compliance with Cincinnati Children's policies, regulatory requirements, clinical standards, and evidence-based practices. Participate in operational planning and support the continued growth and evolution of the Blood & Cancer and Day Hospital programs. Staff Leadership & Development Recruit, hire, onboard, orient, and retain high-performing nursing and clinical staff. Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance management. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, psychological safety, and professional growth. Support staff competency development and ongoing clinical education. Encourage professional advancement and participation in Cincinnati Children's clinical advancement programs. Conduct performance evaluations and provide meaningful feedback to team members. Develop and implement strategies to support employee engagement, retention, and professional development. Quality & Patient Safety Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Monitor quality metrics, patient outcomes, and operational performance. Identify trends and opportunities for improvement and develop action plans in collaboration with the team. Lead or participate in quality improvement initiatives related to oncology and hematology nursing practice. Ensure appropriate management and reporting of safety events and patient concerns. Promote evidence-based nursing practice and standardization of care. Interdisciplinary Collaboration Develop strong partnerships with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, social workers, child life specialists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Facilitate effective communication between nursing staff and interdisciplinary partners. Participate in departmental and program leadership meetings. Serve as a liaison between frontline staff and nursing leadership. Collaborate with other Clinical Managers to support consistency across the outpatient Blood & Cancer and Day Hospital areas. Qualifications Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Ohio. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Progressive nursing leadership or charge nurse experience. Demonstrated leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, high-volume clinical environment. Preferred: Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Leadership, or related field. Pediatric nursing experience. Experience in pediatric oncology, hematology, infusion, or ambulatory care. Previous Clinical Manager, Assistant Manager, or other formal nursing leadership experience. Certification in pediatric oncology, nursing leadership, or a related specialty. Experience with quality improvement, patient safety, staff development, and change management. Job Responsibilities Leadership - The Clinical Manager will provide programmatic leadership of the clinical component in their assigned areas to ensure quality patient care outcomes. The Manager in collaboration with Clinical Director will develop and implement goals, standards, policies, educational programs, procedures and practices in alignment with the strategic plan. Situations that affect daily operations will be monitored and appropriate actions taken. The Clinical Manager will participate in the development, coaching, and evaluation of department personnel. Mentor and provide learning and development opportunities for direct reports. The Clinical Manager will establish workforce communication and approaches that will represent our Core Values and cultural competence. Staff competence will be ensured through appropriate training and practice oversight. Demonstrates consistent integration of the Interprofessional Practice Model (IPM) in all aspects of practice. The Clinical Manager will ensure that shared governance and shared decision making are integrated with leadership practices. Demonstrate skill with interpersonal communication along with presentations, written materials and through group facilitation. Holds self and other accountable for mutual professional expectations and outcomes. Compliance - Managers will maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Consistently assure quality and adherence to standards by utilizing auditing and quality assurance approaches. Managers will follow the guidance of their Directors in the development and implementation of corrective action plans. Partner with department leaders of Center for Professional Excellence (CPE) and Accreditation Services to improve staff performance, compliance and documentation. Assure all reporting staff have required competence, education and their clinical performance represents standards of compliance. Enhance relationships to promote interdisciplinary involvement and knowledge of compliance standards, status, and actions. Managers facilitate the knowledge and actions of their employees with appropriate policies and standards of performance. Operations - Serve as a point of contact and resource for the daily operations. Research and resolve operational questions and problems as they arise. Serve as a resource to staff in the resolution of complex issues and concerns. Provide oversight and guidance in the day to day patient staffing. Evaluate and adjust resource allocation based on patient needs and system factors. Establish and maintain procedures for orientation of new employees. Assure integration of annual operational goals into daily practice. Address problem trends, develop, plan and implement solutions to improve processes and work flow for both individuals and systems for which teams work. Provide oversight and evaluation of clinical practices, patient outcomes and all practices associated with safety and quality patient care. The Clinical Manager will be competent to support patient care delivery for their area as needed. Project Management - Provide leadership for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, and completion of specific projects. Assure alignment of developing projects with organizational priorities and strategic plan. Develop project plans resource allocation, and timeline. Manage the day‑to‑day operational aspects of a project and scope. May direct assigned project team ensuring effective utilization of resources. Reports on progress of the project to all stakeholders. Provides detailed organizational communication plans when clinical operations are impacted. Integrate principles of inclusion throughout projects and daily operations. Financial Management - Engage with the day to operations that impact productivity. Conduct analysis, partner with others in decisions around resource allocation and recognize the impact of decisions on productivity. In collaboration with director; develop, implement and evaluate the department's annual operating and capital budget to achieve the organizational and departmental objectives. Analyze and monitor financial performance and assist in the reporting of financial results. Evaluate variances, determine underlying causes, and establish proposed solutions. Provides clinical practice leadership for the operation of specified patient services departments dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents. Provide direct support and oversight of clinical practice, coordination of patient care delivery, coaching and development of staff, and manage the work environment.
