We are seeking a Buyer to join Crown Packaging Corp. in Chesterfield, Missouri. This role is responsible for procuring packaging supplies, supporting cost reduction efforts, managing inventory needs, expediting purchase orders, resolving purchasing issues, and assisting the purchasing team with daily responsibilities.
About the Role

As a Buyer with Crown Packaging Corp., you will obtain materials from suppliers at the lowest cost consistent with quality, supplier reliability, and urgency of need. This position expedites purchase orders, resolves issues related to purchase orders, and supports the purchasing agent through all phases of daily purchasing responsibilities.
This role requires strong communication, organization, negotiation, attention to detail, Microsoft Office skills, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate brings previous buyer experience, sound judgment, and a commitment to supporting internal teams with timely, accurate purchasing information. What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities

• Procure packaging supplies while aggressively pursuing cost reductions and managing inventory
• Expedite purchase orders and resolve purchasing-related issues
• Produce quotes and bids on demand for sales while optimizing cost, quality, and, when applicable, inventory performance
• Recommend purchasing alternatives when needed to support business and customer needs
• Coordinate stock transfers as necessary
• Follow up on orders to support timely delivery

Purchasing Documentation & System Support

Freight Documentation & System Support

• Manage purchasing documents, correspondence, quotes, bids, and related records
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date daily and weekly reports as required
• Resolve invoice and freight discrepancies in a timely manner
• Demonstrate a proficient understanding of Crown's freight program and computer system
• Conform to the requirements of the Quality Management System

Sales, Supplier & Internal Communication

• Communicate order status to internal sales and sales support teams
• Work with suppliers to obtain materials that meet quality, cost, reliability, and urgency requirements
• Collaborate with managers, co-workers, and departments across the company to support purchasing needs
• Support the purchasing agent and broader purchasing team with daily responsibilities

Qualifications & Skills

• 2-4 years of previous experience in a buyer role required
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with managers, co-workers, and all departments within the company
• Ability to multitask and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong negotiation skills
• Detail-oriented with proficient Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Excel, and Word
• JDE experience preferred
• Project management experience preferred
• Experience within the packaging industry a plus
