Lab Assistant

Join a well-established clinical setting as a Laboratory Lab Assistant and play a vital role in supporting accurate and efficient laboratory operations. This position provides an opportunity to develop hands-on skills in specimen processing, quality control, and laboratory safety protocols within a dynamic healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Receive, sort, and label specimens accurately to ensure proper testing and analysis
• Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshoot basic equipment issues
• Prepare reagents, media, and specimens at workstations, including building worklists, aliquoting, and slide preparation
• Conduct centrifuging, inoculation, and checking specimens for clots and fibrin
• Assist with quality assurance and control procedures, including recording data and resolving pending lists
• Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests in compliance with safety protocols
• Maintain departmental records, files, and logs for specimen storage and retrieval
• Handle biohazardous waste disposal safely and dispose of biohazard materials properly
• Change gas cylinders and perform routine laboratory safety and cleanliness procedures
• Use laboratory computer systems and operate PCs efficiently

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen processing
• Good interpersonal skills to interact courteously with coworkers and internal/external customers
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with laboratory systems
• Ability to follow safety procedures and PPE guidelines

Additional Skills & Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; medical assistant training is helpful
• Courses in math and science preferred
• No previous work experience necessary; on-the-job training provided
• Must be able to establish work priorities and retain information learned
• Schedule flexibility may be required as the role may be extended
• Ability to perform routine laboratory tasks and handle multiple responsibilities efficiently
• Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, respect, and a commitment to quality
