OCOM - Pre-Op Registered Nurse

Overall Responsibility To establish guidelines to identify the professional qualifications and skills required for employment in the pre-operative area. It is the Pre‑Op Nurse’s responsibility to formulate and execute the nursing care for patients of all ages in the Pre‑Op area to ensure the patients receive the highest quality of care, that their safety is ensured according to policy and procedure, and to instigate and execute all other tasks as requested by the Chief Nursing Officer. Key Tasks and Responsibilities Prepares pre‑operative admission for patients in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of drug usage, their actions and side effects, interaction with anesthesia agents and expected patient outcomes. Recognizes emergency situations and responds quickly and efficiently following policy and procedure, ACLS, PALS, physician orders, or an emergency plan to prevent adverse patient outcomes. Maintains knowledge and adheres to policies/procedures and care standards for pre‑operative care. Ensures patient meets admission requirements before proceeding to surgery. Documents that assessments, interventions and patient outcomes are performed according to policy and procedure and hospital standards. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence in designated skills identified for the position. Performs appropriate nursing duties during procedures that pertain to pain management using current nursing standards as well as hospital standards. Completes all documentation in Cerner to ensure the availability of accurate and up‑to‑date information in accordance with established standards. Adheres to established hospital safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Required Skills and Certifications RN licensure from the Board of Nurse License for the State of Oklahoma BLS, if not current, certification within 90 days of hire ACLS / PALS required; if not current, training within 6 months of hire Ability to make decisions based on nursing judgment.
