Sr. Mainframe Developer

Sr. Mainframe Developer Location: Charlotte, NC - Onsite Experience: 12+ Duration: Long Term Job Description Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications utilizing Telon, COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, VSAM and other mainframe technologies. Collaborate with business stakeholders, analysts, and architects to define requirements and implement solutions tailored to business needs. Lead the development and enhancement of Telon-based applications, ensuring system stability, performance, and scalability. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior developers and conduct code reviews to ensure best practices and standards are followed. Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to Telon applications and mainframe environments. Perform regular maintenance, bug fixes, and optimizations to improve application performance and efficiency. Coordinate the testing of Telon applications and work closely with QA teams to ensure high-quality releases. Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including system designs, code comments, and user manuals. Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and data privacy standards within mainframe applications. Participate in the on-call support rotation for production systems, responding to critical incidents and ensuring timely resolutions. Knowledge of system development life cycle in both Agile and waterfall models. Skills and Qualifications: Strong experience with Telon development tools for application generation, design, and maintenance on the mainframe. In-depth knowledge of COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, VSAM and other key mainframe technologies. Nice to have REXX/EASYTRIEVE experience Expertise in mainframe development environments and tools, including job scheduling, debugging, and performance tuning. Proven ability to integrate legacy systems with modern platforms and technologies. Familiarity with the complete software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, coding, testing, deployment, and support. Strong understanding of data modeling, DB2 databases, and SQL. Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Expertise in Endeavor, IBM Data Studio, and Expeditor Debugging tools Ability to work independently as well as part of a cross-functional team. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Familiarity with Agile development practices and project management tools such as JIRA or Confluence. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in mainframe development, with at least 2+ years of hands-on experience with Telon.
