Principal Application Architect [Remote]

This role sits at the intersection of enterprise architecture leadership and mission-critical healthcare technology transformation. You will define and guide end-to-end application and solution architectures across complex, large-scale programs that support essential public health services. Working across multiple domains—including application, infrastructure, cloud, security, and compliance—you will ensure cohesive, scalable, and secure system design. The position plays a key advisory role, influencing technical direction while collaborating with senior leadership, delivery teams, and external stakeholders. You will also provide architectural governance, evaluate solution impacts, and contribute to long-term technical roadmaps. This is a high-visibility role suited for a seasoned architect who thrives in complex, regulated environments and enjoys shaping enterprise-wide technology strategy.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will lead enterprise architecture efforts across multiple programs, ensuring alignment between business objectives and scalable technical solutions. You will evaluate architectural impacts, define end-to-end system designs, and guide teams through complex technical decisions while maintaining governance and quality standards.

• Define and maintain end-to-end enterprise and application architectures across multiple initiatives and domains
• Lead architecture impact assessments, identify architectural risks, and recommend scalable technical solutions
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, roadmaps, and design artifacts
• Present solutions and recommendations to architecture review boards and senior leadership stakeholders
• Provide governance across application, infrastructure, security, and compliance requirements
• Assign and guide architecture resources across a portfolio of projects while mentoring junior architects
• Collaborate closely with PMO, engineering, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure cohesive delivery

Requirements

This role requires extensive experience in enterprise architecture and deep technical expertise across modern software and infrastructure ecosystems. You should be comfortable operating in large-scale, regulated environments and engaging with both technical and executive stakeholders.

• 10+ years of experience in application architecture, enterprise architecture, or software engineering leadership roles
• Strong knowledge of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and enterprise design principles
• Experience with application design, software development lifecycles, and infrastructure/cloud technologies
• Proficiency in evaluating systems across application, data, infrastructure, security, and operational layers
• Ability to create technical roadmaps, architecture diagrams, and complex design documentation
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills with experience guiding technical teams
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage executive, technical, and client stakeholders
• Experience in healthcare or regulated environments strongly preferred
