Chemical Process Engineer

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Schedule: Part-Time (Minimum 20 Hours/Week; Additional Hours Preferred)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Chemical Process Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity with our client in Pittsburgh, PA. This position will focus on process engineering design, technical quality, design reviews, and engineering oversight for advanced manufacturing facilities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemical process engineering, semiconductor facilities, and quality assurance, with the ability to review complex engineering deliverables and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform conceptual and detailed process engineering design for advanced manufacturing facilities.

• Review and validate engineering calculations, specifications, design assumptions, and technical deliverables.

• Conduct quality reviews of process designs developed by other engineers to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.

• Review P&IDs, engineering drawings, detail sheets, and supporting calculations.

• Identify and resolve technical discrepancies, design errors, and potential engineering issues.

• Ensure engineering deliverables align with project scope, budget, schedule, and quality standards.

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams across multiple locations.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

• Minimum 8 years of chemical process engineering experience supporting facility design projects in advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or oil and gas industries.

• Minimum 1 year of semiconductor industry experience.

• Strong experience reviewing engineering calculations, specifications, P&IDs, and technical design deliverables.

• Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and technical review skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and collaborate with geographically dispersed engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing or reviewing semiconductor facility process systems.

• Proficiency with Bluebeam, Navisworks, or similar engineering design review software.

• Experience mentoring engineers and improving engineering quality standards.

• Familiarity with multidisciplinary engineering coordination and construction documentation.

Work Schedule

• Minimum availability of 20 hours per week , with additional hours preferred.

• Flexible working hours required to support collaboration with globally distributed engineering teams.
