Lead Medical AssistantThe Lead Medical Assistant is responsible for overseeing other medical assistants to ensure efficient operation of the medical office while providing direct patient care. The Lead Medical Assistant supports medical providers and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. The goal is to complete all activities accurately, and with high quality and in a timely manner.Duties and responsibilities:Coordinates and supervises activities of medical assistant staffProviding direct patient care, including taking vital signs, administering injections, and assisting with minor surgeriesScheduling and coordinating patient appointmentsMaintaining patient records and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulationsTraining and mentoring new medical assistantsAssisting physicians and nurses during examinations and proceduresOrdering medical supplies and equipmentCommunicates changes to MA schedules with Clinical ManagerHandling patient inquiries and complaintsEnsuring adherence to safety and cleanliness standards in the facilityPatient rooming, including vitals.Interviews patients and document basic medical history in electronic records.Gathers information for medication reconciliation.Conducts laboratory services, testing of specimens as needed.Performing administrative tasks, such as billing and coding for patient insurancePerforms STI/ PrEP testing per protocols, both inside the office and at offsite testing locations; includes maintenance of supplies and related reporting requirements.Assists in coordination of prior authorization and other pharmacy support.Utilizes and demonstrates sensitive communication styles, to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment.Ensures awareness of sources of support and guidance and provide information in an acceptable format to all patients, recognizing and difficulties and referring where appropriate.Ensures inquiries on the phone and in person and gather information for provide to facilitate patient care.Produces accurate, contemporaneous, and complete records of patient consultation, consistent with legislation, policies, and procedures.Delivers care according to professional standard guidelines and evidence-based care.Uses a structured framework to manage, review and identify learning from patient complaints, clinical incidents, and near-miss events.Understands and applies legal issues that support the identification of vulnerable and abused children and adults and be aware of statutory child/vulnerable patients health procedures and local guidance.Works with practice management to ensure the whole team have skills and knowledge regarding domestic violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse and addictive behaviors.Provides guidance and support to ensure appropriate referral if required.Establishes and maintains a concierge-level customer service relationship with all patients and community partners.Applies infection control measures within the practice per local and national guidelines.Prepares laboratory specimens and performs basic laboratory tests as needed.Performs other duties as needed or assigned.Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Experience:High School Diploma or equivalent required.Degree in medical assisting or related field is a plusCertified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferredBLS/CPR certificationPhlebotomy experience is required.Possess or can master Microsoft Office Platforms, E-Clinical Works Electronic Medical Record.Strong written and verbal communications skills.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Work as a self-starter and under little direction on tasks provided by leaders. Be forward thinking on tasks and proactive in dealing/managing challenges and/or obstacles.Working conditions:Prolonged periods standing, walking, and/or sitting at a desk and working on a computer may be required. Work may be required in various environments as needed by project/activity, including travel to offsite testing locations.Physical requirements:May require the occasional ability to lift up to 10 pounds.Direct reports:N/A
