Certified Nursing Assistant

Under the direction of licensed nursing personnel, performs direct and indirect designated resident care within the scope of practice as defined by certification. The Certified Nursing Assistant must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development across the lifespan. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information needed to identify the patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. Care needs for adult and geriatric patient groups must be provided adequately. Resident's ADL needs are to be met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Responsibilities include hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence/catheter care, elimination/toileting needs, turning/positioning, and skin care. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Maintains resident environment and safety as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Promptly answers call lights and alarms, provides safety mats and low beds, and uses restraints under nursing direction. Maintains cleanliness of the unit, ensures behavior and fall prevention measures are in place, and monitors for malfunctioning equipment. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Meets residents' nutritional needs as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Responsibilities include meal delivery, tray preparation, adaptive equipment, feeding, and providing nourishment. Resident preferences and choices shall be honored. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Addresses residents' rehabilitative needs as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. This includes range of motion exercises, ambulation, transfers, proper body alignment, and the use of assistive devices. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Reports resident rights, refusals, and concerns to the Charge Nurse or Supervising Nurse in a timely manner per policies and procedures. Identifies and promptly reports changes in resident physical, emotional, and psychosocial status to the Charge Nurse.
