Job Description
We are seeking detail-oriented Aerospace Assemblers to support a growing aerospace and defense manufacturer in Decatur, AL. In this role, you assemble precision aerospace components while maintaining strict quality, safety, and regulatory compliance standards. You work in a fast-paced, climate-controlled manufacturing environment producing hardware for aerospace and Department of Defense programs, with a strong focus on accuracy, reliability, and adherence to AS9100 and ISO9001 quality management systems.
Responsibilities

• Assemble aerospace and defense components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings, technical specifications, work instructions, and routing sheets.
• Perform mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly operations, including bench assembly, production assembly, component integration, kitting, and assembly line operations.
• Interpret and follow blueprints, engineering drawings, technical drawings, schematics, GD&T, bills of materials (BOM), and manufacturing documentation to ensure correct configuration and traceability.
• Install aerospace fasteners such as rivets, Riv-Nuts, Heli-Coils, threaded inserts, and other mechanical hardware using appropriate tools and torque specifications.
• Use hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, torque wrenches, rivet guns, drill presses, and precision measuring equipment such as calipers and micrometers to complete assembly tasks.
• Perform adhesive and epoxy bonding, cork bonding, masking, surface preparation, coating touch-up, and part finishing in accordance with process requirements and surface treatment standards.
• Conduct visual inspections, in-process inspections, first article inspections (FAI), and final inspections to verify product quality, configuration control, and compliance with quality management systems.
• Identify defects, support root cause analysis, and document non-conformances through non-conformance reporting (NCR) and other quality assurance and quality control processes.
• Execute marking and identification activities including laser marking, ink stamping, electro-chemical etching, part marking, serialization, and bag-and-tag to ensure proper product identification and traceability.
• Follow FAA compliance, AS9100, ISO9001, and other relevant aerospace and defense manufacturing standards, including configuration control and documentation requirements.
• Maintain clean, organized work areas with a strong focus on foreign object debris (FOD) prevention and adherence to safety procedures and manufacturing best practices.
• Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
• Collaborate with production support and manufacturing operations teams to meet schedule, quality, and delivery targets for flight hardware and aerospace components.
• Use ERP systems such as SAP, as applicable, to record production activities, maintain traceability, and support configuration and documentation control.
• Follow all work instructions and standard operating procedures in an aerospace machine shop environment, ensuring consistent and repeatable assembly processes.

Essential Skills

• Experience with aerospace assembly, mechanical assembly, and production assembly in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, technical drawings, schematics, GD&T, bills of materials (BOM), and detailed work instructions.
• Hands-on experience using hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, torque wrenches, rivet guns, drill presses, and other assembly equipment.
• Proficiency in installing aerospace fasteners, including rivets, Riv-Nuts, Heli-Coils, threaded inserts, and other mechanical fastening hardware.
• Demonstrated capability in precision assembly and electro-mechanical assembly, including bench assembly, sub-assembly, and final assembly of aerospace components.
• Knowledge of AS9100, ISO9001, and quality management systems, including traceability, configuration control, and documentation requirements.
• Experience performing visual inspection, first article inspection (FAI), in-process inspection, final inspection, and basic quality assurance and quality control activities.
• Familiarity with adhesive bonding, epoxy application, cork bonding, surface preparation, masking, coating touch-up, and part finishing processes.
• Ability to use precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and other inspection tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Understanding of defense and aerospace manufacturing environments, including DoD manufacturing, military programs, flight hardware, and aerospace components.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to work accurately with small, precision components in a fast-paced production setting.
• Capability to follow manufacturing documentation, routing sheets, work instructions, and technical specifications with strong attention to detail.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in precision manufacturing, aerospace machine shop operations, and production support for aerospace and defense programs.
• Familiarity with quality tools such as root cause analysis, defect identification, and non-conformance reporting (NCR).
• Knowledge of IPC standards and other industry-specific quality and workmanship requirements.
• Experience with laser marking, ink stamping, electro-chemical etching, serialization, and product identification processes.
• Exposure to lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies in a production environment.
• Experience with ERP systems, including SAP or similar platforms, to support manufacturing operations and traceability.
• Ability to work effectively on assembly lines, in bench assembly, and in component integration and kitting operations.
• Comfort working with inspection equipment and measurement tools to verify compliance with technical specifications.
• Understanding of manufacturing operations, production assembly workflows, and production support activities in aerospace and defense settings.

Work Environment

The facility operates on first shift, with potential for second shift as needed, and emphasizes clean, organized work areas with strong FOD prevention and adherence to safety and quality standards. You collaborate closely with manufacturing operations, production support, and quality teams in a structured, documentation-driven setting governed by AS9100, ISO9001, FAA compliance, and related aerospace and defense requirements.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $26.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
