Pharmacy Tech | Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

An established specialty retail pharmacy is seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Pittsburgh, PA. This role supports patients managing complex medication regimens, requiring both strong pharmaceutical knowledge and compassionate patient interaction skills.


Responsibilities:

• Accurately prepare and dispense medications for patients who typically manage 8-15 prescriptions daily.
• Utilize Pioneer Rx software for prescription processing and inventory management (training available if needed).
• Communicate effectively and patiently with patients experiencing chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and multiple sclerosis.
• Support a patient population primarily covered by Medicare/Medicaid, many with low literacy, requiring empathy and clear explanations.
• Collaborate with pharmacists and healthcare team members to ensure the highest level of patient care and adherence to protocols.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience as a retail or specialty pharmacy technician, preferably with exposure to chronic disease management.
• Excellent communication skills focusing on patient interaction and education.
• Prior experience or comfort working with a low-income, under-served patient population.
• Proficiency or willingness to learn Pioneer Rx software.
• Active registration with the Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy; national certification (PTCB) preferred but not mandatory.

Schedule and Location:

• Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a lunch break from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
• No weekend shifts required.
• Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

This 13-week contract position offers the possibility of permanent placement based on performance and fit. Candidates should be ready to start as soon as possible.
