Current Vacancies

There are currently two (2) vacancies available:
• One (1) 6.0 hours per day, 11-month position in the Secondary Education Department.• One (1) 3.5 hours per day, 9-month position in the Special Education Department. Supplemental hours may be available based on program needs but are not guaranteed.
Under general supervision, serves as the primary liaison between the District's career development programs , students, and the local business community to develop, implement, and coordinate a full continuum of work-based learning (WBL) opportunities that prepare students for college and career success.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Employment Training Specialist is a journey-level classification responsible for coordinating work-based learning placements, employer partnerships, and student support activities within the District's career development programs. The incumbent performs a variety of specialized duties requiring excellent communication skills, independent judgment, and detailed knowledge of CTE pathways, grant compliance, and employer engagement strategies.

This classification is distinguished from lower-level technician classes by its responsibility for program development, external partnership building, and district-wide coordination. It is distinguished from higher-level management classifications by the absence of supervisory authority over classified or certificated staff.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from an assigned administrator. Provides general work direction to students participating in work-based learning activities. Collaborates closely with site and district staff. Does not exercise supervision over District staff.

Examples of Duties

  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates a comprehensive range of WBL activities, including guest speakers, career fairs, workplace tours, job shadowing, mentorships, and paid or unpaid internships.
  • Collaborates with CTE teachers, counselors, and site administrators to integrate career exploration and WBL activities into the curriculum, ensuring experiences are meaningful, sequential, and aligned with student learning objectives.
  • Assists students in developing career readiness skills through workshops and individualized support in areas such as resume preparation, interview practice, and professional communication.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with local employers, industry leaders, and community organizations to expand work-based learning opportunities aligned with District programs.
  • Researches, identifies, and cultivates partnerships with local businesses, industry leaders, and community organizations to establish a robust network of WBL placements, field learning experiences, guest speakers, mentors, internships, and other supports for students aligned with the District's CTE pathways.
  • Monitors student progress and employer satisfaction at placement sites through regular communication and on-site check-ins as needed..
  • Coordinates program logistics, including student transportation arrangements, event scheduling, and preparation of workplace documentation and pre-employment paperwork.
  • Promotes the WBL program to students, parents, staff, and the community through presentations, workshops, and marketing materials to ensure broad participation and support.
  • Ensures all WBL activities and placements comply with California Education Code, child labor laws, District policies, and funding source requirements.
  • Compiles data and prepares comprehensive reports on student participation, program outcomes, and grant-related metrics for District leadership and state agencies.
  • Supports CTE teachers and students in the administration of industry-recognized certification exams and coordination of Career Technical Student Organization activities, events, and competitions.
  • Supports CTE teachers in coordinating Career Technical Student Organization activities, including event logistics and competition preparation.
  • Attends meetings, advisories, conferences, and workshops, some of which may be scheduled during evenings or weekends, in order to maintain up-to-date knowledge of programs and requirements.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Laws, codes, and regulations applicable to work-based learning programs, including child labor laws and Education Code provisions
Ability to:
  • Coordinate work-based learning activities and program components involving students, employers, and District staff
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records and prepare reports.
  • Work independently with minimal direction while managing competing priorities.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, engaging presentations.
  • Apply and explain District policies and program procedures related to work-based learning placements and partnerships.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employers, community partners, students, and District staff.
  • Communicate effectively and persuasively, both orally and in writing.
  • Exercise independent judgment in matching student interests and abilities to appropriate work-based learning placements.
  • Operate a computer and utilize standard and specialized software software.
  • Model communications and interactions that respect and include individuals of all languages, abilities, religions, and cultures.
Typical Qualifications
Experience:

Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in education program coordination, workforce development, career and technical education (CTE), school-to-career services, or a related field involving the development of community or employer partnerships. Experience in a K-12 public school district setting is highly desirable.

Education:

Two years college-level course work in education, counseling, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field from an institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Equivalency Provision:
Additional related education beyond the stated minimum may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two years.

Supplemental Information
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment with frequent interruptions. The position requires travel to school sites, business locations, and community events. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to attend meetings or events.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time, as well as standing, walking, and bending.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person, on the telephone, and during presentations.
  • Must be able to read a variety of materials.

We offer comprehensive benefits to full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, deferred compensation, flexible spending accounts, voluntary life insurance, disability, holidays, vacation, and sick leave. Part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week (4 hours per day) are eligible for pro-rated benefits based on hours worked.
