Aspiring Clinical Intern - Nursing Student

General Summary

Under general supervision, the Clinical Intern performs a variety of patient care duties tailored to individual age and developmental needs, assisting with daily living activities and clinical procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including hygiene assistance such as bathing, hair care, oral hygiene, and grooming.
• Deliver skin care while taking precautions to prevent skin breakdown.
• Assist with physical activities including repositioning, ambulation, range of motion exercises, and transfers.
• Support nutritional needs by preparing patients for meals, assisting with feeding, monitoring intake, and adhering to dietary restrictions.
• Collect specimens, perform vital signs, and document intake and output accurately.
• Perform sit baths, postmortem care, and apply therapeutic devices like ted hose, K-pads, and ice packs.
• Lead and encourage participation in performance improvement initiatives and teamwork.
• Carry out technical nursing procedures within credentialed scope, including oxygen therapy management, catheter insertion/removal, intravenous therapy discontinuation, nasopharyngeal suctioning, dressing changes, wound care, and skin management.
• Conduct patient assessments and collaborate closely with the primary nurse.
• Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, and manage nasogastric tubes.
• Educate patients and families in coordination with nursing staff.
• Promptly report any changes in patient condition or concerns to licensed nursing staff.
• Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all patient care activities in medical records.

Education

Currently enrolled in a nursing program or completed nursing education without meeting licensing requirements.

Experience

Entry-level position; no prior experience required.

Certification/License

Mental/Physical Requirements

Requires significant mental focus and physical stamina, including frequent heavy lifting, walking, and various physical movements such as pushing, pulling, stooping, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, anti-neoplastic agents, and occasional hostile individuals. Frequent contact with blood and bodily fluids. Minimal physical discomfort expected.
