Sr Counsel Patent Medicinal/ Pharmaceutical Chemistry - San Francisco

Overview Senior Counsel - Patent Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The role involves developing, implementing, and executing global intellectual property strategies for Amgen’s therapeutic products and product candidates (e.g., small molecules and peptides), including compositions, polymorphs, formulations, processes, and manufacturing methods. The position can be remote or on-site at Thousand Oaks, CA; Cambridge, MA; or South San Francisco, CA. Responsibilities Work with Amgen scientists to identify patentable subject matter Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide Conduct prior art searches Analyze patents and prepare freedom-to-operate opinions Conduct due diligence in support of licensing activities Negotiate and draft research agreements Provide legal advice and counsel to R&D and business partners on IP matters Assist with litigation-related matters and challenging/defending patents in PTAB, opposition, and other forums Minimum Education & Required Qualifications J.D. or LL.M. from an accredited law school, admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction Four (4) or more years of experience practicing intellectual property law Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Preferred Qualifications Ten (10) or more years of experience in patent or IP law Experience in U.S. and foreign IP law related to biotechnology in a law firm or biotech/pharma company Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in organic or medicinal chemistry Excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills Strong management, leadership, client service, and ability to work independently and in teams Ability to manage multi-dimensional projects in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines Experience in adversarial proceedings (patent litigation, IPRs, PGRs, oppositions) What You Can Expect Amgen supports professional growth and well-being with a comprehensive benefits package, competitive salary, and a total rewards plan.
