Job Description

The BESS Project Manager leads advanced technical, financial, and regulatory planning for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from early development through construction readiness. This role applies advanced engineering, economic, and project-management principles to optimize project scope, risk allocation, and financial feasibility across complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects. The Project Manager plays a key role in shaping investment decisions, ensuring projects are fully developed, and enabling a seamless transition into construction.

Responsibilities

• Lead advanced pre-construction planning and optimization for utility-scale BESS projects, integrating engineering design, financial modeling, procurement strategy, and regulatory requirements to support executive investment decisions.

• Manage coordination of highly matrixed project development teams to ensure resources are aligned with critical activities and project schedules are met.

• Coordinate with environmental, regulatory, cultural, land acquisition, interconnection, and other project stakeholders to ensure comprehensive and compliant project development.

• Develop and optimize the project’s technical scope and key variables to improve both technical performance and financial feasibility.

• Support origination and development teams with Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Generator Interconnection Agreement (GIA) negotiations, as well as jurisdictional and permitting requirements.

• Coordinate engineering, estimating, and procurement inputs to support the development of robust financial models and detailed project designs.

• Actively seek out, analyze, and leverage market data to ensure financial models are accurate, competitive, and resilient.

• Present financial models and project assumptions to relevant business units and guide them through executive budget approval processes.

• Competitively source, negotiate, and execute commercial contracts for critical services, including geotechnical investigations, surveying, engineering, and EPC/PC construction services.

• Represent Engineering & Construction interests on assigned projects and use various software applications to support project activities, manage critical data, and report on key indicators.

• Communicate proactively and effectively with executive leadership, suppliers, regulatory agencies, local communities, and other stakeholders to maintain alignment and address issues.

• Present project progress updates, key risks, and mitigation strategies in meetings with various levels of management.

• Ensure a seamless handover of projects entering the construction phase by delivering an inclusive, executable construction plan to the Construction Project Manager.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

• Minimum of 5 years of project management experience, preferably with a focus on engineering, economics, or construction.

• Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.

• Strong understanding of financial modeling, project economics, and risk allocation for large capital projects.

• Advanced proficiency in Excel for financial analysis, modeling, and data management.

• Excellent project management skills, including planning, scheduling, coordination, and stakeholder communication.

• Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to synthesize technical and commercial information.

• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate work in a highly matrixed environment.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills for presenting to executive leadership and diverse stakeholders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Technical experience with renewable energy projects, particularly electricity markets, renewable generation, and battery energy storage projects.

• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is highly desired.

• Six Sigma experience or similar process improvement experience is highly desired.

• Experience with PPA and GIA negotiations and familiarity with jurisdictional and regulatory requirements for utility-scale projects.

• Experience sourcing and negotiating contracts for geotechnical, survey, engineering, and EPC/PC construction services.

• Familiarity with software tools used for project management, data analysis, and reporting.

• Ability to engage effectively with regulatory agencies, local communities, and public forums, including support for local public hearings.

• Interest in contributing to large-scale utility and renewable energy initiatives.

Work Environment

This role is based in Juno Beach, FL, working within a professional office environment focused on large-scale utility and renewable energy projects. The position involves regular collaboration with cross-functional teams, including engineering, finance, procurement, regulatory, and development, and requires frequent use of software tools for project management, financial modeling, and reporting. Occasional travel to project locations and to support development activities at local public hearings may be required. The work environment emphasizes a structured, project-driven culture where clear communication, thorough documentation, and adherence to schedules and regulatory standards are essential.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Juno Beach, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $65.00/hr.
