Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner – WEC Detention Facility (Evergreen) Hiring Agency: Correctional Services - Agency 46. Location: McCook, NE. Compensation Physician Assistant: $58.846 per hour Nurse Practitioner: $60.428 per hour Minimum Qualifications Physician Assistant: Graduation from an American Medical Association approved Physician Assistant program or have passed the National Commission Certification examination; supervisory experience helpful. Nurse Practitioner: Successful completion of an accredited program for Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. Incumbents must have a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse and be certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Nebraska. Preferred Qualifications Experience working as a Physician Assistant within a clinical setting or equivalent experience. Work experience as a Physician Assistant in a correctional or institutional setting. Current CPR/ALCS certification preferred (required within one year of hire). Other Requirements Certification and current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Nebraska. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass a medical exam and a drug test at a randomly announced time. Upon acceptance, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program at the Staff Training Academy. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of Life Sciences, including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Histology, and Embryology; the use and effect of modern drugs; primary care medicine as outlined by the Nebraska State Board of Medical Examiners for Physician Assistants. Skill in interacting effectively with interdisciplinary teams; conducting clinical assessments and differential diagnosis; performing physical examinations; basic CPR; interpreting laboratory data and x-rays; performing minor surgery; proctoscopy; treating non-displaced fractures and casting; documenting observations and diagnoses. Ability to gain confidence and cooperation of patients, medical staff, and students; initiate primary care for patients when necessary; communicate orally and in writing with patients, family members or guardians, nurses, team members, and other medical staff; react effectively to medical and psychiatric emergencies.
