Assistant Store Manager

Summary The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Additionally, AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates and provide leadership. The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager Position is a progression from the AIT position and therefore includes additional high‑level duties that are specific to that role. Compensation & Benefits Pay range: $00‑$00/hr Estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job‑related reasons. For sales positions, Buckle pays a base rate plus commission on sales. The range listed is the estimated base rate plus commission for teammates in this position. Sales Generation and Guest Service Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service. Answer questions regarding the store and merchandise. Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on guest needs. Anticipate guest needs and suggest additional items. Demonstrate product knowledge and share it with teammates. Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, payment, exchange policies and security practices. Remain consistent on personal sales and pursue sales presentation opportunities. Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales and net sales goals set by store management. Provide legendary service across the store (front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, register area). Be knowledgeable of exchange and return procedures. Use the Sales Presentation Guide daily to accomplish goals. Meet or exceed performance standards for Buckle business builders and guest loyalty. Drive guest selection through inventory and technology tools. Build positive guest relationships to develop a client‑based business. Lead by example with showmanship, customer service and attentiveness. Recognize and communicate guest level upgrades with the team. Ask business‑driven questions and solicit feedback from managers. Maintain high standards for store sales performance. Plan sales goals with the store manager. Show passion for product education and showmanship. Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development Recognize recruiting opportunities using jobs & careers cards, email referrals and teammate recommend. Coach through guest loyalty programs. Develop skills, orient, motivate and educate new teammates to meet Buckle’s standards. Maintain a positive floor culture and professional dress code. Participate in daily setup, training, performance tracking. Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks set by store management. Influence denim showmanship and fit card usage. Manage departmental actions and weekly check‑ins. Execute department calendars and delegate focus throughout the week. Communicate locally and with store leadership. Remember guest names and assist teammates. Collaborate with the store manager on senior education focus. Recruit additional staff and explain pay and benefits. Update contact lists and maintain talent pipeline. Execute leadership playbook training and maintain accountability. Visual Merchandise Management Own product zones and assign them to teammates with learning goals. Use new tools and videos for zone ownership. Delegate and review the four zones with the store manager. Ensure compliance with visual standards and weekly checklists. Recognize merchandising opportunities and recommend solutions. Conduct store tours and ensure sales floor sizing is correct. Improve visual results using performance tracking. Maintain visual standards in the floor and backroom. Operations Work a flexible schedule, including holidays and additional days as needed. Complete opening and closing checklists. Identify security risks, handle thefts and maintain loss prevention routines. Execute point‑of‑sale procedures and share calls from corporate. Provide calm responses to challenging situations. Follow all payment, return, exchange and loss prevention policies. Assist with tools on the home page. Give guidance to non‑sales positions. Cover scheduled shifts and other required work. Maintain a clean and shoppable store. Give feedback on merchandise handling. Communicate policy violations securely. Follow code of ethics and other policies. Complete all new‑hire paperwork promptly as required. Plan work on weekly, monthly and yearly basis. Manage markdowns, pulls, freight, recalls and RTVs. Establish relationships with corporate departments. Maintain inventory of supplies. Handle emergencies in store manager’s absence per company guidelines. Supervisory and Leadership Give and receive feedback from peers and management. Support leadership and promote personal growth. Maintain a professional, stable relationship with teammates. Conduct daily interviews for team development. Overcome objections and solve problems. Educate self on company tools and share knowledge. Administer the Buckle Commitment to Success program. Travel and cover other stores as required. Handle schedule changes positively. Fulfill the mission with high customer service and team spirit. Lead special projects and other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Assists the Store Manager in supervising. Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related retail experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Qualifications Relocation may be required. No visa sponsorship is available. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel, including overnight as required. Physical Demands Requires regular standing, walking and use of hands. Must lift and maneuver up to 50 lbs. Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus adjustments.
