Correctional Officer Trainee

Job Overview The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is seeking highly motivated individuals to serve as Correctional Officer Trainees within the Custody Division. The trainee will learn to follow clearly established procedures for receiving prisoners, maintaining discipline, preventing escapes, and supervising inmates. The role requires staying alert at all times and reacting quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Qualifications

• Completion of a pre‑employment physical examination, drug screen, and background investigation is required. The County pays for the initial drug screen and physical.
• A T‑Score of 45 or higher on a BSCC Selection Examination is qualifying for entry‑level Adult or Juvenile Corrections Officer positions from other agencies.
• Candidates must pass a physical agility test and a written exam to advance in the recruitment process. A separate physical agility exam from another law‑enforcement agency or training academy will not be accepted.

Benefits Hiring Incentive Program: Up to $10,000 may be awarded to new hires in specified classifications. Up to $2,000 moving stipend reimbursement for qualified new hires. Vacation accrual rate consistent with total years of public service. Up to 160 hours of non‑reimbursable sick leave from previous agencies may be credited.
