Operations ManagerThe Operations Manager is responsible for leading daily warehouse, yard, inventory, shipping and receiving, and related operational activities to ensure a safe, efficient, organized, and customer-focused operation. This role provides leadership to warehouse and operational employees while coordinating inventory flow, staffing, equipment, facility needs, deliveries, and process improvement initiatives. Working closely with Sales, Purchasing, Transportation, Shop, and branch leadership, the Warehouse Operations Manager ensures materials are received, stored, picked, staged, and delivered accurately while maintaining high standards for safety, inventory control, productivity, and customer service. The ideal candidate is an experienced building materials operations leader with strong problem-solving skills, a hands-on leadership style, and the ability to anticipate operational challenges before they impact customers or the business.Warehouse & Yard OperationsLead daily warehouse and yard operations to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient material flowEnsure warehouse, yard, loading, staging, and storage areas are prepared for daily business operationsConduct routine operational walkthroughs to verify department readiness, housekeeping, inventory organization, and safetyOversee picking, staging, stocking, receiving, loading, and movement of building materialsCoordinate placement of incoming inventory and optimize storage locations to improve workflow and space utilizationEnsure warehouse and yard materials remain organized, accessible, properly identified, and in sellable conditionSupport shipping and receiving activities and resolve operational issues that may affect customer ordersMaintain high standards for warehouse and yard cleanliness, security, and organizationInventory ManagementMonitor inventory accuracy and support effective inventory-control processesCoordinate cycle counts, physical inventories, inventory reconciliation, and related activitiesInvestigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actionsPartner with Purchasing and Sales to support appropriate product availability and inventory levelsCoordinate placement and relocation of inventory to maximize warehouse efficiencyEnsure incoming materials are accurately received, counted, inspected, and properly storedMaintain accurate operational and inventory documentationSupport seasonal and storm-related inventory requirements as business needs changeShipping, Receiving & Delivery OperationsCoordinate shipping and receiving priorities to support customer and operational requirementsPartner with Transportation and Dispatch to support accurate and timely customer deliveriesEnsure customer orders are properly picked, staged, verified, and prepared for deliverySupport route and delivery coordination as operational needs requireAssist with resolving delivery, material, and customer-service concernsEnsure shipping and receiving teams follow established documentation and material-handling proceduresCoordinate communication between warehouse, yard, drivers, Sales, and customers when necessaryTeam Leadership & Employee DevelopmentLead, coach, develop, and support warehouse, yard, shipping, receiving, and other assigned operational employeesEstablish daily priorities and assign resources based on customer demand and operational requirementsCoordinate employee schedules and staffing needsReview and approve employee timekeeping and attendance records as assignedConduct regular team meetings and communicate operational priorities, expectations, and business updatesProvide coaching and feedback to improve employee performance, trained before operating forklifts and other material-handling equipmentReport and respond appropriately to accidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and unsafe conditionsFleet, Equipment & Facility ManagementCoordinate maintenance and repair priorities for company vehicles, forklifts, warehouse equipment, and facility systemsMonitor equipment condition and ensure unsafe or damaged equipment is removed from service when appropriateCoordinate with internal Maintenance teams, vendors, and service providers to minimize equipment downtimeSupport routine inspections of company vehicles and material-handling equipmentMaintain safe, clean, functional, and secure warehouse and facility environmentsCoordinate building maintenance and general property upkeepMaintain accountability for facility access, company keys, and operational security proceduresOperational Planning & Continuous ImprovementDevelop, implement, and improve warehouse and operational proceduresIdentify opportunities to increase productivity, inventory accuracy, safety, and customer satisfactionEstablish standardized workflows and operational best practicesMonitor operational operational environmentsExperience managing inventory, shipping/receiving, material handling, and warehouse workflowBasic proficiency with computers, inventory systems, and business applicationsPreferred Qualifications10+ years of industry experience preferredExperience within lumber, building materials, construction supply, wholesale distribution, or related industries strongly preferredExperience leading warehouse, yard, shipping/receiving, transportation, or multi-functional operationsKnowledge of ERP, WMS, inventory management, and warehouse systems preferredForklift certification or experience with material-handling equipment preferredValid driver's license required where operation of company vehicles is necessaryCDL or commercial transportation knowledge is a
