Senior Accountant/Auditor

Role Overview San Bernardino County is recruiting for a Senior Accountant/Auditor who performs complex professional accounting duties requiring preparation and interpretation of financial statements and reports; establishes new accounting procedures and controls; performs complex compliance and operational audits of departments, special districts, and programs; and analyzes and advises management on fiscal matters. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or economics, or a bachelor’s degree in another field that includes 30 semester (45 quarter) units of accounting coursework. Transcripts with qualifying coursework are required if the degree is in another field. Minimum of two (2) years of full‑time equivalent professional‑level auditing and/or accounting experience. Professional‑level experience is defined as occupations that require specialized knowledge typically acquired through principal work experience; clerical or bookkeeping experience is not considered qualifying. Valid California Class C driver’s license required; mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained. Background investigation and medical examination, including drug screening, required. Law enforcement or public safety positions may require a more stringent background check. Applicants must not require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Benefits Auditing pay differential of 2.0% above base rate. Certified Public Accountant stipend of $750 annually for employees who attain and maintain a valid CPA license. Salary ranges: $75,067–$103,542 annually for Fire Department Accountant; $75,046–$108,721 annually for Special Districts Accountant III.
