Summer 2026 Intern Application

Description Interns in the program will work five days a week for eight hours each day in one of the following roles: Wellness Center Aid, Store Associate, Lifeguard, Office Staff, or Day Camp Junior Counselor. In addition to their primary responsibilities, interns will participate in scheduled activities focused on job development, recreation, or community service. A key job function is to ensure quality service is provided to all participants and families. Day Camp Junior Counselor Position Summary Responsible for assisting with the implementation and facilitation of Frost Valley YMCA’s Summer Day Camp. Focuses on safety, planning, and execution of activities for campers aged 4‑16. Additional duties include managing daily camper paperwork, attendance, behavior management, and basic parent communication. Store Associate Position Summary Handles customer service, cash register operation, and cash handling. Provides a friendly and professional public‑facing experience for customers. Wellness Center Aid Position Summary Supports Wellness Center staff in maintaining a recovery‑conducive environment for campers. Encourages healthy practices, maintains cleanliness of patient care areas, and assists licensed staff in speeding recovery. Lifeguard Position Summary Supervises and maintains the waterfront. Duties are assigned daily by the Waterfront Director and include waterfront duty, boating or creek activities, and additional tasks as needed. Lifeguards must obtain a lifeguard certificate including AED/First Aid. Office Staff Position Summary Manages documentation of incoming mail, signs out equipment, assists with data entry, and participates in the check‑in/check‑out process for camp events. Intern Participant Essential Functions Fulfill job placement expectations, adhere to daily schedule, follow all rules and regulations of the Internship Program. Meet or exceed the standards of the American Camp Association and the Ulster County Board of Health. Coordinate with multiple departments to maintain professional standards of Summer Day Camp and the Frost Valley YMCA. Perform other duties as assigned. Day Camp Junior Counselor Essential Functions Work directly with campers, leading activities and ensuring their safety and well‑being throughout the day. Assist in creating a weekly program plan for a specific camper group. Maintain diligent attendance and behavior records for the group. Provide prompt, friendly, and informative customer service. Communicate with families about Day Camp programs. Maintain the highest safety standards for over 160 campers per session. Meet or exceed the standards of the American Camp Association and the Ulster County Board of Health. Coordinate with multiple departments to uphold professional standards of Summer Day Camp and the Frost Valley YMCA. Embrace the Frost Valley YMCA character values. Perform other duties as assigned. Store Associate Essential Functions Provide excellent customer service in a timely, friendly, and courteous manner. Communicate successfully with all Frost Valley Departments. Process sales through the cash register with accurate cash and charge transactions. Restock shelves with merchandise. Assist with packing online orders. Maintain a tidy and neat store appearance. Conduct yourself in a professional manner in accordance with Frost Valley YMCA policies. Perform additional duties assigned by the Store Manager or Chief Operations Officer. Wellness Center Aid Essential Functions Assist campers in obtaining proper nutrition and fluid intake. Clean patient care areas, infirmary, and camper bathrooms daily or as needed. Document patient vitals and other care tasks. Launder Wellness Center linens. Ensure proper hygiene, rest, activities of daily living, and supervision for campers in the infirmary. Maintain an environment conducive to recovery. Communicate camper health needs and reported symptoms to licensed staff. Participate in Wellness Center trainings, including emergency preparedness drills, CPR, First Aid, and epinephrine administration. Collaborate between EMS personnel, Wellness Center staff, and the Camp Director team. Report unsafe or hazardous situations on Frost Valley property. Lifeguard Essential Functions Supervise campers at the waterfront, boating, or creek. Assist with upkeep of the waterfront. Support the check‑out process. Hold a valid lifeguard certification, including AED/First Aid. Report unsafe or hazardous situations on Frost Valley property. Office Staff Essential Functions Process, document, store, and safely distribute all mail arriving at Frost Valley. Print, sort, and distribute all camper emails. Prepare luggage tags and assist with check‑out. Prepare, document, distribute, and collect program equipment. Report unsafe or hazardous situations on Frost Valley property. Perform other duties as assigned by the Office Coordinator. Embrace the Frost Valley character values. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Qualifications Must be 16 years old. Must have New York State working papers. Experience or desire to work with children aged 4‑16. Excellent communication and organization skills. Comfortable with learning computer software. Provide excellent customer service with high attention to detail. Strong leadership and teamwork abilities. Ability to multi‑task and handle pressure well. Enjoy working with children, teens, families, and staff. Work Environment & Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasional lifting and moving up to 50 pounds. May require standing on their feet for long periods. Occasional traversal of rough terrain. Requires close, distance, and adjustable vision abilities.
