Line Cook

Job Summary The Line Cook will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold food items for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special/catered events in a senior living/healthcare setting. Key Responsibilities Produce small to large batch goods using classical cooking techniques. Follow standardized recipes to achieve proper quantities and consistent high quality. Maintain high sanitation standards and comply with organization, federal, state and local regulations. Prepare foods to order, including use of a grill station; read food orders and produce foods per recipe or product directions. Use kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut, shred fruits and vegetables, and trim meats, poultry, fish. Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, record production requirements and requisition supplies. Attend allergy and foodborne illness training; apply food safety and sanitation practices. Receive and handle inventory, move and lift supplies; prepare meals for special dietary needs. Take and record food temperatures; correct any discrepancies. Plate food accurately with proper appearance and garnish. Assist with set‑up, breakdown and cleaning of serving lines and food areas. Record and label items with appropriate dates and store properly. Safety & Risk Management Comply with company safety and risk management policies and procedures. Participate in safety meetings, training and hazard assessments. Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Current Food Handler’s Permit required; ServSafe preferred. State sanitation certificate preferred. Minimum 3–4 years of related food service and cooking experience. Experience with basic kitchen equipment operation. Intermediate to advanced knife experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Extensive working knowledge of kitchen environment and food preparation. Effective verbal and written communication in English. Ability to read and follow written instructions and recipes independently. Basic computer usage. Customer service skills with senior residents. Dependable, detail‑oriented, organized, with strong follow‑through. Ability to manage priorities and time efficiently. Maintain neat and orderly work area and well‑groomed appearance. Adhere to dress code and kitchen uniform requirements. Understanding of food safety, sanitation, preparation and serving principles. Ability to work with diverse individuals. May work holidays and flexible hours. Physical Requirements Lift or carry equipment or supplies up to 50 lbs. Repeated stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, pulling/pushing and extended walking/standing. Stand, sit, twist, bend, squat, kneel or crouch during job duties. Adequate vision and hearing. Stand for up to 8 hours per shift. May be exposed to heat or cold during outside activities. Compensation Hourly pay range: $17.52 – $23.06 per hour. Pay is determined by qualifications, experience, skills, education, geographic location and internal and external equity.
