The Physician 3 Serves as the statewide Transgender Medical Specialist under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Medical Officer. Analyzes, directs, and coordinates medical care provided to transgender incarcerated individuals statewide, both in person and through telehealth modality. Collaboratively develops and coordinates with the Gender-affirming Program Coordinator and/or Transgender Health Navigator the implementation of the ongoing systems approach for the provision of health care related to gender dysphoria and transgender individuals. - Act as a treating consultant for transgender patients in conjunction with the on-site staff. This will include managing assessment for and treatment with hormones and consideration for surgical intervention. This position will support the pre- and post-surgical care of transgender individuals, communicate effectively verbally and in writing with patients, their families, other health care personnel, custody and other institutional personnel so that information can be shared in an effective, safe and timely manner. Legibly document clinical findings, rationale and plan of action for health care medical record, database or other DOC forms. These services will be provided primarily through telehealth with the potential for some on-site, in-person services. Provide letters of support as indicated for surgical consultations.
- In collaboration with other healthcare providers, write and help implement relevant protocols.
- Provide professional assessment for consideration of the CRC to determine medical necessity for various interventions to include surgical interventions.
- Provide consultation as needed to other healthcare professionals in DOC. Provide training on related topics to healthcare professionals in DOC.
