Laboratory Technician

Position Summary This temporary laboratory technician will support ongoing molecular epidemiology projects at a laboratory at UNC. The individual will run a variety of molecular assays to detect and/or quantify infectious agents from a variety of specimens. They will perform extraction of the biospecimens, involving work with both DNA and RNA. They will manage large sets of data generated and provide summary statistics for the assays, and provide quality assurance of the assays. The position reports to a senior lab technician, the lab manager, and the principal investigator. Qualifications Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Preferred Experience Previous experience with PCR and real‑time PCR of malaria. Operate basic computer programs for collating and organizing data. Experience carrying out molecular laboratory work. Special Physical/Mental Requirements The individual must be able to perform the activities required of the position, including accessing supplies on shelves and accessing samples from freezers.
