INTERIM DEVELOPMENT ADVISOR (TEMPORARY 2-3 MONTHS)

We are committed to ensuring access to essential healthcare services for every member of our community, irrespective of financial status, living situation, or insurance coverage.Job Summary:The role of an Interim Development Advisor is to serve as a strategic consultant, providing hands-on coaching, and trusted thought partner to organizational leadership, supporting the advancement of fundraising, donor engagement, and philanthropic growth initiatives within a non-profit and federally qualified health center environment. This position works closely with the Director of Development and Communications, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to strengthen development operations, build fundraising infrastructure, enhance donor stewardship practices, and support long-term organizational sustainability. This role will provide mentorship, strategic guidance, and operational support to help advance the organization’s mission of delivering equitable and accessible healthcare services to underserved communities.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Management, Business Administration, Communications, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field is preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, fundraising strategy, donor relations, philanthropy, or healthcare advancement is required.Experience working within a nonprofit organization, healthcare system, or federally qualified health center is strongly preferred.Proven record of accomplishment in grant writing, fund development, and capital campaign activities.Excellent business and social communication skills, both written and verbal, with excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.Demonstrated experience supporting executive leadership, development strategy, and major donor cultivation initiatives preferred.Experience mentoring or advising fundraising and development professionals preferred. Ability to think strategically and execute deliverables.Strong knowledge of nonprofit fundraising principles, donor stewardship practices, and development operations.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain relationships with stakeholders and leaders.Experience developing fundraising strategies, donor pipelines, and performance metrics.Excellent coaching and relationship-building skills.Ability to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders and build positive working relationships.Experience supporting capital campaigns, major gifts fundraising, or healthcare philanthropy initiatives.Familiarity with grant development and nonprofit compliance requirements.Experience with non-profit organizations and familiarity with the Tri-Valley area is desired.Bilingual skills preferred depending on community needs.Must possess a valid and current driver’s license with reliable transportation, a clean driving record, and automobile insurance is required.Strong analytical and excellent employee relations skills.Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds.Proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as on a team with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment.Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and a professional demeanor and must positively represent the organization at all times.Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships.Must be able to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.Must be able to be at work regularly and on time.Must be a dynamic self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently or in a group setting.A can-do attitude, attention to detail, with the ability to organize.Ability to type a minimum of 35 WPM with minimal errors.Must be able to use office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, etc.).This is a part-time position working 3 hours per week (0.075 FTE).Essential Duties/Responsibilities:Serve as a trusted coach, mentor, and thought partner to the Director of Development, supporting professional growth, leadership development, and confidence in the role.Collaborate with leadership to co-develop and implement a comprehensive 12-month development plan, including fundraising goals, donor engagement strategies, timelines, and measurable key performance indicators (KPIs).Provide strategic guidance regarding fundraising priorities, donor outreach initiatives, and philanthropic growth opportunities aligned with organizational goals.Provide guidance on donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts, with a strong focus on establishing and expanding a major gifts pipeline.Assist in strengthening donor relationship management practices and establishing effective moves management strategies.Support the Director of Development in preparing for donor meetings, stakeholder presentations, community partnership discussions, and fundraising engagements.Report progress, observations, and strategic recommendations directly to the CEO while serving as a sounding board on development leadership and organizational advancement strategies.Help identify opportunities to diversify funding streams through individual giving, sponsorships, grants, and community partnerships.Collaborate on fundraising campaigns, donor appreciation initiatives, and community engagement activities.Assist in establishing development systems, operational processes, and fundraising best practices to support long-term sustainability and organizational growth.Monitor fundraising progress, donor engagement metrics, and development outcomes to support informed decision-making.Prepare reports, strategic updates, presentations, and recommendations for executive leadership and board stakeholders as needed.Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization through strategic relationship-building and community engagement.Ensure compliance with nonprofit fundraising standards, ethical guidelines, and organizational policies.Drive to other sites and locations, attending events as needed and to perform job duties or support organizational operations.Participate in staff meetings, and attend other meetings and training events as assigned.May be required to perform other related duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.Additional Information:This is a temporary position with an expected duration of two to three months. Employment is expected to conclude at the end of the assignment unless extended based on organizational needs or by mutual agreement.
