Job Description Member Title: Project Rise AmeriCorps Member (Multiple Positions Available) Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours, approximately 9:30am to 5:30pm or 10:30-6:30 (dependent on position) AmeriCorps Program: Project RISE (Refugee and Immigrant Success through Education) is an AmeriCorps effort that focuses on educational services to address the significant literacy gap in the DeKalb County refugee community, among both youth and their parents. In RISE, 17 full-time AmeriCorps members serving an 11-month service cycle will leverage an additional 300 community volunteers to support refugee and immigrant self-sufficiency by offering individualized direct service through education in core programs, including afterschool and summer academic programming, operating in multiple DeKalb County sites. All member activities include a focus on education and literacy, with most site members serving half of their time in out-of-school tutoring and mentoring programs at their assigned locations and half of their time delivering core program services in specific departments. All full-time members will complete a minimum of 1700 hours from September 2021 to July 2022. Program Requirements: Full time (40 hours a week) 11 month commitment Starting September 1, 2022 through July 31, 2023 Must complete 1700 hours AND finish the terms of the commitment (all 11 months) to qualify for education award. Submit to a background check upon hire. Participate in day/evening/weekend service projects, overnight retreats, and other national service events as required. The member needs to be able to drive their own vehicle and/or the van. Upon hire, member must have a current, valid license and have access to a vehicle. Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Stipend is $17,000 TWICE A MONTH ($1,372 PER MONTH, $733 EVERY TWO WEEKS, PRETAX.) The Segal education award is given at the end of the service term after successful completion (1700 hours and all commitment requirements). The Segal Education Award is $6945 for full time members. The following positions are available: to see more detailed position descriptions please see individual position postings at School Readiness Member - Assist refugee families with public school registration and referrals to community resources. Facilitate workshops and one on one sessions with parents and school educators. Preferred Communities Member – Assist refugee families with navigation of the US healthcare system, referral to health and medical services, and supporting health access. Economic Empowerment Member - Help create employment-based workshops & assists clients towards the goal of self-sufficiency. Volunteer Engagement Member - Coordinate communication, placement, orientation and training for volunteer opportunities with New American Pathways and in the community. Identify potential volunteers by fostering partnerships within the community. Coordinate the recruitment and placement of interns in the agency. English at Home Member - Match English-speaking volunteers with refugee clients and track clients’ progress and engagement in learning. Develop and organize curricula, resources and reference materials for volunteers to provide instruction in English. Community Outreach Member - Organize activities and events to educate the community about refugee issues and raise community awareness about New American Pathways programs. Coordinate all aspects of the agency’s group volunteer programs, and co-sponsorship program. Career Advancement Member - Assess newly arrived clients’ educational and vocational strengths, evaluate clients’ foreign credentials (and transfer them, if possible), match clients with potential mentors, and conduct resume building and vocational workshops. Civic Engagement Member - Create educational materials around civic engagement, Specific areas of focus include school education initiatives focus on civics curriculum and civic education workshops. Employment Member (2) - Create educational workshops for adult clients including financial literacy, employment skills training and job placement. Assist with resume, interview skills & job placements. Middle School Program Development Member - Develop afterschool activities and curriculum that engage middle school refugee youth in the areas of personal development and growth, life skills, and teen-related issues as well as literacy, math, science, technology, art, music, and community service. Family Support Member - Serves in the School Liaison Department to help lead parent workshops, develop materials for parent engagement activities, and provide services to parents of students in our two afterschool programs. Community Resource AmeriCorps Member - Serves in the Resettlement Department providing information and referral services to assist refugee clients to access community resources. Qualifications Required Sensitivity to people of all cultures, ethnicities, and religious backgrounds. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Organizational/time management skills, ability to prioritize with attention to detail. Flexible and able to problem solve. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to be an active member of a team in a diverse, multicultural environment. Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
