Role Description The Senior Underwriter is a full-time, on-site role based in San Diego, CA, responsible for evaluating, structuring, and approving risk-based decisions for One Numerica’s clients. This role involves reviewing financial statements, credit reports, and business documentation to assess risk profiles and ensure alignment with internal policies and regulatory requirements. The Senior Underwriter will collaborate with Accounting, Payroll, HR, and EOR teams to develop underwriting guidelines, recommend appropriate terms, and support client onboarding and ongoing risk management. Daily activities include analyzing data, preparing underwriting recommendations, documenting decisions, and communicating outcomes clearly to internal stakeholders and clients. The role also includes mentoring junior team members, contributing to process improvements, and helping shape underwriting best practices as the company scales. Qualifications Strong analytical and financial assessment skills, including experience reviewing financial statements, credit data, and risk indicators. Knowledge of underwriting principles, risk management frameworks, and compliance requirements relevant to U.S. businesses. Proficiency with spreadsheets, financial modeling tools, and underwriting or risk management software. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams (e.g., Accounting, HR, Payroll, EOR) in a fast-paced environment. Experience mentoring or leading junior underwriting or analyst staff, with a focus on knowledge sharing and quality control. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field; advanced certifications in underwriting or risk management are a plus. Prior experience as an Underwriter or Senior Underwriter in financial services, insurance, lending, or related industries is strongly preferred.
