Cloud DBA (Azure SQL)

Job Description

\n

Senior SQL Server DBA
White Plains
Direct Hire
$130,000-$150,000

\n

This is a hands-on role where you will own the performance, integrity, and scalability of a critical database environment spanning both on-premises SQL Server and Azure SQL. You will be walking into an existing environment, assessing what's there, and optimizing it the right way — this is not a maintain-what-exists role, it's a fix-and-build role.

\n

What You'll Do

\n

\n
• Monitor, diagnose, and resolve performance bottlenecks across SQL Server and Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance environments
\n
• Optimize queries, indexing strategies, execution plans, stored procedures, and database configurations
\n
• Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines using Azure Data Factory and SSIS
\n
• Assess an existing environment and implement proper structure, security, and best practices where they are lacking
\n
• Manage backup and recovery strategies, geo-replication, failover groups, and high availability configurations
\n
• Implement and enforce schema-level security, data masking, encryption, and access controls
\n
• Collaborate with security teams to ensure database security standards are applied correctly
\n
• Conduct regular performance reporting, capacity planning, and data lifecycle management
\n

\n

Qualifications

\n

\n
• 5+ years of SQL Server DBA experience with at least 3 years focused on Azure SQL
\n
• Strong T-SQL — complex queries, stored procedures, triggers, and views
\n
• Hands-on Azure Data Factory and/or SSIS experience for ETL pipeline work
\n
• Proven ability to assess and remediate a poorly structured existing database environment
\n
• Schema design and database security best practices
\n
• Experience working alongside a security team to apply standards
\n

Bonus \n

\n
• CI/CD familiarity a plus — DevOps owns the pipeline but collaboration is expected
\n
• SQL as code mindset a plus
\n
