Casualty Supervisor

Responsibilities Coach, mentor, and provide guidance to the casualty team and examiners. Collaborate with casualty management to determine coverage and refine investigations. Formulate action plans and develop negotiation tactics. Drive litigation strategies to resolve claims. Participate in supervisor and committee reviews to develop and implement claims processes. Provide innovative solutions to common and unique claim scenarios. Verify and approve timekeeping records. Consult employees about discrepancies. Complete evaluations and progress reports for supervised personnel. Document performance feedback and other personnel matters. Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures and take disciplinary actions if needed. Develop and monitor completion of goals for supervised personnel. Conduct quality assurance and production review of supervised employees utilizing KPIs. Convey fiduciary responsibility to team and customers. Assist casualty team members in claim development. Interpret coverages, policy terms, and conditions for insurance products. Maintain active participation in casualty team committee review meetings. Collaborate with house and panel counsel members. Requirements High School Diploma 3 years of Casualty Examiner or Adjuster experience Supervisors and managers are required to have completed NYCM’s internal leadership development programs, including Employee Enrichment Journey (EEJ1) and Employee Enrichment Journey (EEJ2). External hires must complete required leadership programs, Employee Enrichment Journey (EEJ1) and Employee Enrichment Journey (EEJ2). Working knowledge and understanding of NYS Insurance Law Section 5102(d). Knowledge of NYS Labor Law, Sections 240 & 241. Working knowledge of the casualty examiner position including all duties and responsibilities. Full knowledge of litigation process, negligence, proximate cause, causality and impact on reserving and resolution of claims. Advanced understanding of year-to-year impact of casualty reserve and resolution on company financials. Proficient computer skills including MS Office Excel, create and formulate spreadsheets. Keen understanding of the human body and its various functions and medical terminology. Ability to read and fully comprehend medical reports and all other claim documents, and the potential impact of claim value. Skilled in giving testimony. Excellent and effective oral, active listening, and written communication skills. Excellent negotiation, innovative thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
