Overview The Cancer Center of Kansas (CCK) is seeking a full‑time, on‑site Registered Nurse to join our team in Wichita, KS. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM with no major holidays, no on‑call and no weekends. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, developmental and age‑specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Responsibilities Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices. Assess health status by interviewing patient regarding status and medical history. Collect and record nursing assessment and interventions. Review and report the results of the health status assessment and physical examination, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data and psychosocial assessment of assigned patients to the provider and take appropriate action based on standard or verbal orders. Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material. Provide psychosocial support to patients and families. Maintain patient confidentiality. Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician. Administer all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique. Ensure pre‑authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies where applicable. Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management. Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports and maintain central line catheter devices. Maintain accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided. Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture. Maintain work environment. Restock the supply area as needed. Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood‑borne pathogen. Maintain all disinfection protocols and maintain equipment according to quality control standards. Facilitate clinical operations and patient care. Manage patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and record the information in the patient chart. Assist physician with exams and procedures. Maintain efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms. Facilitate and schedule consultations, pre‑testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals and future appointments for patients. Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient’s chart. Facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinate services related to patient care. Assist patients in locating available community resources. Perform other duties as assigned, including interprofessional collaboration. Assist and collaborate with clinical research. Act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants. Provide nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed. Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing by engaging in ongoing educational opportunities. Program portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery and provide instruction to the patient and/or caregiver in the use of the pump at home. Demonstrate knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, clean pumps after use, and properly document pump usage. Attend required, applicable meetings. Keep current licensure and meet continuing medical education requirements. Remain current on all compliance requirements and adhere to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPAA laws and guidelines with regard to patient records and information. Ensure all applicable policies and procedures of the company and Network are followed. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Specialty Specific Requirements For Transplant RNs Provide nursing care from initial patient contact through high‑dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell rescue to follow‑up care post‑stem cell rescue. Manage symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to the intense high‑dose therapy, stem cell rescue and rehabilitation following rescue in collaboration with transplant physician and supervisor. Report data to company for Transplant related registries and appropriate bodies, International Autologous and Blood and Marrow Transplant Registries. Incorporate company Transplant Network recommendations into clinical practice as assigned. For Primary Nurses assigned to a Physician Manage medication refill requests from pharmacies, documenting details in patient charts. Advocate for patients and support their empowerment in the care process. Facilitate referrals as part of the care plan, treatment course, or advance care planning, in collaboration with scheduling teams and as directed by a provider. Act as the patient liaison between healthcare providers and patients. Assist patients in accessing community resources as needed. Assume additional duties as assigned, including infusion room nursing coverage. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education; BSN preferred. RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Maintain continuing education requirements. 0–3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology. Physical Requirements Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Work Environment Work is performed in a medical office environment with frequent interaction with staff, patients, and physicians. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. #J-18808-Ljbffr
