Staff Psychologist - Honor Annex VA Clinic

Overview This psychologist position participates in the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Eligible applicants must meet VA/VHA policy requirements and submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Qualifications and Eligibility Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy. English Language Proficiency: Proficient in both spoken and written English. Education: Doctoral degree in psychology from an APA-accredited program (APA, PCSAS, or CPA), completed at the time of program completion; the specialty area must be consistent with the intended assignment. Specialty Area: The specialty areas recognized by accrediting bodies apply; for VHA psychology appointments, school psychology is not eligible for appointment. Alternative Path: Doctoral degree in any area of psychology plus successful completion of a re-specialization program in APA- or CPA-accredited doctoral program, with the retrained specialty consistent with the assignment. Internships/Licensure: Requires an APA or CPA-accredited internship; board certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a compatible specialty may qualify in lieu of certain internship requirements; licensure at the doctoral level in a U.S. state/territory/DC is required, with temporary grandfathering provisions where applicable. Licensure Exception: Non-licensed applicants meeting eligibility may be eligible for a temporary graduate psychologist appointment with supervision, not to exceed two years. Grade Determinations: For GS-13, two years of professional psychology experience with at least one year at the GS-12 level; demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in professional psychology, consultation, clinical research, and treatments across patient populations. Duties and Responsibilities Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic medical illness–related mental health conditions within the context of primary care and overall veteran health promotion and well-being. Collaborate with Clinical Care and Nursing leadership to train and consult with Primary Care staff on health behavior coaching (e.g., healthy lifestyle coaching) and develop competencies in health behavior coaching. Plan, develop, implement, and assess health behavior interventions (e.g., weight management, tobacco cessation, exercise, sleep hygiene) with the Health Promotion/Disease Prevention program managers and other stakeholders. Supervise pre-doctoral and post-doctoral psychology trainees and participate in supervision of trainees from other disciplines as assigned. Assist program managers in design, development, and implementation of clinical programs for a team of treatment providers; ensure adherence to operational policies and procedures. Contribute to program evaluation and quality improvement projects; support data-driven decision making and monitor clinical performance measures. Provide consultation and training to Primary Care and Mental Health staff to enhance health behavior programs and patient self-management of chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, COPD). Develop and deliver education and training to ensure culturally competent care among Primary Care and other Service Line providers. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm.
