Overview

At the YMCA of Greater Kansas City, healthy living isn't just a department — it's how we help people thrive. We're looking for a mission-driven, relationship-centered Healthy Living Director to lead wellness programming at Platte Co. Community Center North, building programs and a team that help members of every age and ability get healthier, stay connected and feel their best.

 

Located just 15–20 minutes from downtown Kansas City and 5 minutes from KCI, Platte City offers small-town charm and a close-knit community feel, with acres of parks and greenways, top-rated schools, and easy access to everything the metro has to offer.

 

As Healthy Living Director, you'll plan, budget for and grow a full slate of wellness programs while building genuine relationships with members and associates. At the Y, you'll have the opportunity to make a difference every day — helping people of all ages and backgrounds lead healthier, more connected lives.

 

Hiring Range: $50,000 - $53,000

Responsibilities

Program & Member Experience

• Design and maintain a diverse schedule of wellness classes and programs for members of all abilities and fitness levels
• Ensure health- and wellness-related tours get strong follow-up, and train center and association staff on wellness programming
• Participate with the association's health and wellness team

Team Leadership

• Interview, hire, schedule, coach and supervise a team of qualified wellness staff
• Conduct regular staff meetings and performance evaluations
• Maintain accurate, complete personnel files, including staff certifications

Business & Operations

• Prepare and manage the annual and monthly wellness budget
• Prepare and evaluate monthly reports
• Maintain a safe, clean, well-organized wellness area, studio, office and service spaces

Community & Growth

• Represent the Y at community events to promote our mission and programs
• Help develop and drive corporate wellness partnerships
• Stay current on exercise science, nutrition, CPR, first aid, choreography and fitness trends through required continuing education

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent education and experience in health and wellness
• Minimum 2 years' experience in this or a related field, including 2+ years supervising a team
• Current CPR (child and adult), AED, Oxygen, and First Aid within 30 days
  
• A national Group Exercise certification and/or Personal Training certification accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies within 90 days
• A friendly, consistent way of relating to people at every level, with a positive attitude
• Must be able to manage and monitor department budget.
  
• Ability to make independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
  
• Articulate with high skills in written communication.
