Non-Certified Police Officer

Position Police Officer – Under the general supervision of a Sergeant and in cooperation with the community, performs a variety of policing and law enforcement activities. Tasks are service oriented and include patrol, investigative, and enforcement functions. Duties involve personal danger, exposure to adverse weather conditions, apprehending criminals, directing traffic, and transporting prisoners. Incumbents perform duties in accordance with Florida Statutes and established departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas to maintain public safety and enforce laws.
• Investigate and respond to calls for service, gather evidence, and interview witnesses.
• Direct traffic and ensure lawful movement on highways and at intersections.
• Apprehend offenders and execute lawful arrests.
• Transport prisoners securely to detention facilities.
• Maintain accurate written reports and ensure adherence to departmental policies.
• Exercise independent judgment and work without close supervision. The officer may be authorized to assume duties of a Sergeant when absent.

Minimum Requirements United States Citizen Minimum 21 years of age at the time of state certification. High School Graduate or G.E.D. equivalency Pass Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) – waived for out‑of‑state certified officers with proof of certification, associate’s degree holders, or honorable‑discharge veterans. Pass Physical Agility Test (PAT) Pass Swim Test Pass an Oral Board Examination Pass Polygraph Examination Pass Psychological Screening (Law) Pass an extensive background investigation Pass a Chief and/or Command Staff review Pass an extensive medical evaluation Pass drug detection by urinalysis test Meet current State training requirements as necessary Stable work history Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record Must possess ability to exercise discretion Be of good moral character, have no felony convictions and have not committed incidents of violence Not have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement Military discharge must not have been "Dishonorable" Examination and Testing The candidate must complete the following examinations and tests: Criminal Justice Basic Aptitude Test (CJBAT) – valid 4 years Physical Agility Test (PAT) – valid 6 months Swim Test – valid for life Oral examination (cumulative score of 15 or more) Polygraph Examination Psychological Screening Extensive background investigation Medical examination Drug screening Disqualifying Factors Five or more traffic moving violations in the last five years or poor overall driving history. Two or more driver’s license suspensions in the last five years. Any DUI arrest or conviction in the last five years. Any tattoos on the neck or face. Any arrest or conviction involving domestic violence. Failure to disclose any traffic tickets, convictions, past employer information, or other relevant background data. Recent use of any illegal controlled substance. Failure to pass a background investigation or psychological screening in the past year. Any military discharge other than "Honorable". Veteran Preference Veterans and qualified spouses receive preference. Candidates must submit a copy of separation papers (DD‑214) and meet eligibility requirements as stipulated by Florida statutes.
