Position Overview

We are seeking a Middle Market Package Policy Underwriter to join our expanding underwriting team. In this role, you will evaluate, select, and price commercial package insurance risks for middle market clients across diverse industries. You will work closely with wholesale brokers/agents to drive profitable growth while maintaining strong underwriting discipline.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and underwrite middle market package policy accounts (Property + General Liability, and related coverages)
• Analyze financial statements, loss history, and exposure data to assess risk quality
• Develop pricing strategies and coverage structures aligned with company guidelines
• Build and maintain strong relationships with agency partners and internal stakeholders
• Understanding of market conditions and responding appropriate as conditions evolve
• Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers and agents
• Be a positive reflection of the Company by demonstrating integrity and leadership in the marketplace
• Ensure compliance with underwriting policies, regulatory requirements, and risk appetite

Target Risk Segments (Package Policy Business)

You will underwrite a wide range of middle market package policy risks , including but not limited to:

• Manufacturing (light to moderate hazard)
• Wholesale & Distribution operations
• Retail businesses (shopping centers, specialty stores, chain locations)
• Hospitality (restaurants, limited service hotels, boutique lodging)
• Real Estate / Habitational (apartment complexes, office buildings, mixed-use properties)
• Contractors (artisan and select general contractors with moderate exposures)
• Professional services (non-medical offices, business services firms)
• Healthcare (non-critical) (clinics, outpatient facilities)
• Entertainment & recreation (fitness centers, family entertainment venues)

These package policies typically bundle:

• Property coverage
• General liability
• Business interruption
• Inland marine (as needed)
• Additional optional coverages tailored to each risk

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of commercial underwriting experience, preferably with package policies or middle market accounts
• Strong knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance principles
• Proven ability to assess complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions
• Experience working with brokers/agents in a production-focused environment
• Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills
