About the Position

Job Title: Stepdown/MedSurg RN Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour nights, weekends and holidays as scheduled Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Ability to read telemetry strips Description: This position involves working in a Stepdown/MedSurg unit. The unit consists of 32 total beds, including 12 Stepdown beds. Patient-nurse ratios are 1:3 for Stepdown and 1:4-6 for the floor. Common diagnoses include chest pain, COPD, altered mental status, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, abdominal pain, and hospice care. RNs are required to titrate drips in the Stepdown unit. Charge nurses and house supervisors are available for support. Registered nurses must be able to read telemetry strips in conjunction with monitoring techs. Staffing levels can require nurses to float to other floors or units as needed. The dress code is royal blue scrubs. Shifts include working two weekends per schedule and rotating holidays with permanent staff. The charting system used is EPIC.
