Quality Supervisor

Role Synopsis

The Quality Supervisor is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership and oversight of hourly employees within the Quality Lab while supporting overall quality activities across the manufacturing operation. This position ensures products, processes, and documentation meet company standards, customer specifications, and applicable industry and regulatory requirements.

The Quality Supervisor will be a hands-on leader who works closely with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and other departments to identify and resolve quality issues, improve processes, and maintain a strong culture of quality and accountability. This role requires demonstrated experience leading employees as well as the technical knowledge and problem-solving skills necessary to support quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment serving the oil and gas industry.

Success in this position will be demonstrated through effective leadership and development of the Quality Lab team, timely resolution of quality issues, improved quality performance, accurate and consistent inspection practices, strong cross-functional partnership, and continued improvement of the site's overall quality systems and processes.

• Supervise, coach, develop, and provide day-to-day direction to hourly employees working within the Quality Lab and inspection functions.
• Guide QC Lead in assignment of work, establishing priorities, monitoring performance, and ensuring appropriate staffing and coverage to support manufacturing requirements.
• Provide training, feedback, performance management, and development for assigned employees.
• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure inspection activities are completed accurately and in accordance with established procedures, specifications, drawings, and customer requirements.
• Review inspection results and assist with disposition and resolution of nonconforming materials and products.
• Ensure inspection and measurement equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and available for use.
• Work cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Customer Service, and other departments to ensure quality requirements are understood and achieved.
• Ensure compliance with applicable company policies, customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate quality records and documentation.
• Support special projects and other quality initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications/Work Experience

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field preferred.

Experience

• Minimum of 10 years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Previous experience directly supervising or leading employees is required.
• Experience with inspection, testing, nonconforming material, corrective actions, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement required.
• Experience in oil and gas, valves, pressure-containing products, machining, metal manufacturing, or a related industrial manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
• Experience working within an ISO-based Quality Management System.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to successfully lead, coach, and hold employees accountable.
• Strong working knowledge of manufacturing quality principles and inspection practices.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, and customer requirements.
• Working experience and knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) and operating and programming CMM equipment for inspection.
• Ability to investigate quality issues and drive corrective actions through completion.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to balance technical quality requirements with production needs.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization.
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (D365)
• Working knowledge of inspection and measurement equipment commonly used in a manufacturing quality environment.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or other continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting manufacturing within the oil and gas industry.
• Experience with valves, pressure equipment, machined components, or similar engineered products.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and applicable oil and gas quality standards.
• ASQ certification or related quality certification.
• Lean or Six Sigma training/certification.

• Ability to walk, stand, bend, sit, lift, push, pull and move objects for 8-12 hours per day.
• Ability to lift and carry files, packages, boxes weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.

• Speak/hear and use specific vision abilities such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

• Capable of properly using standard office equipment, including telephone, and a computer with keyboard.

Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Includes steel toe shoes and safety glasses. Additional PPE may be required based on location and task.

Work Environment

• Work will mostly be performed indoors in a controlled environment.
• Some exposure to the manufacturing and shop areas with exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odours and/or loud noises.
