Community Outreach Aide

JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision, provides outreach and social service assistance in support of the Clean and Sober Outreach and General Assistance program.

Special Requirement:

• Incumbent must be free from substance abuse for the last two (2) consecutive years.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Through community engagement, telephone calls, and home visits, interviews and identifies clients’ needs for behavioral health, transportation or social service assistance.

• Develops and implements outreach strategies to increase awareness of our behavioral health program within the community

• Informs clients of available services and refers to appropriate service provider or community resource; assists clients by filling out forms and advocating or intervening on their behalf, if necessary.

• Collaborates with local organizations, schools, businesses, and community leaders to establish partnerships and expand outreach efforts.

• Transports and/or accompanies clients and families to obtain medical, SUD or Mental Health (MH) treatment or other required services.

• Conducts periodic home visits to monitor client needs.

• Participates and trains the community in the unitization of Overdose Prevention kits, Harm Reduction and Stigma prevention associated with SUD and MH conditions.

• Organizes and participates in community events, workshops, and presentations to educate the public about SUD and MH resources and services.

• Conducts outreach activities such as distributing informational materials, hosting support groups, and engaging with community members directly.

• Maintains accurate records of outreach activities, community partnerships, and participant feedback.

• Collaborates with internal behavioral health team members to ensure alignment and effectiveness of outreach efforts with program goals.

• Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all protected health information in accordance with the Division’s Policies and Procedures, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.

• Supports administrative functions within the Behavioral Health Program (BHP).

• Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Required:

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and six (6) months of related experience in a community services organization is required.

• Ability to obtain 40 hours of training to become a Certified Peer Counselor through HCA within 6 months of hire or at a time set by the tribe.

• Understanding of behavioral health issues, SUD and MH conditions, and treatment options.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a diverse community.

• Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational skills.

• General computer proficiency and able to use electronic health records in a timely manner.

• Commitment to confidentiality, ethical conduct, and sensitivity in working with individuals seeking behavioral health support.

• Valid driver's license and access to transportation for community outreach activities.

Preferred:

• 2 years of experience as Peer Specialist with certification through WA State Health Care Authority.

• Experience working as part of a crisis response team.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; push and pull; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
