Medical Laboratory Technologist IIPhysicians East, P.A. is a team of skilled healthcare professionals united to meet the challenge of delivering quality, cost-efficient, comprehensive healthcare to the people of Eastern North Carolina.We are looking for an employee with experience working in a Clinical Laboratory. Knowledge of clinical laboratory processes and procedures required. This candidate will be expected to perform quality control testing, calibrations, and maintenance of laboratory analyzers. This candidate will be responsible for testing patient samples, reporting results and keeping appropriate documentation. This candidate will assist the laboratory manager with administrative, personnel, and technical functions. Candidates with a knowledge of quality assurance measures are preferred. Candidates who possess strong detail oriented and interpersonal and leadership skills will excel in this position.Supervision Received: Reports to Laboratory ManagerSupervision Exercised: Serves as a main point of contact and team lead for the Arlington Lab.Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent walking, sitting, bending, and standing required for extended periods of time. Lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception.Typical Working Conditions: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.ResponsibilitiesGeneral Duties: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)Assists in reviewing daily workload and quality control, follows up on any quality or timeliness variances as needed.Functions as a technical resource for laboratory staff.Ensures all testing and processes adhere to CLIA, CAP, OSHA, FDA, and AABB regulations as indicated for each technical area of supervision.Assists in assuring accurate inventory control is maintained.Is able to respond appropriately in emergent situations that may arise in the laboratory environment.Serves as a resource technologist when supervisors of specialized area are not available.Assists Lab Manager with other administrative, personnel and technical functions, as directed.Technical Skills and Problem Solving: Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.Evaluates specimens for suitability for testing and resolves problems related to specimen collection.Performs testing, records results of tests and ensures that results are accurate.Reports results for stats, abnormal results, critical values, and other categories of special requests as defined by laboratory policy.Proficient in instrument operation and advanced troubleshooting for designated section of the laboratory.Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of LIS / EMR systems.Evaluates laboratory results and correlates data to recognize disease states. Monitors test results for reasonableness.Investigates and resolves technical, instrument, and other variances leading to problems with or unexpected test results.Lead Tech exercises initiative and independent judgment in dealing with a broad scope of procedural and technical problems.Is able to communicate effectively with physicians regarding specific test results.Able to prioritize and organize workload so that results are reported within established turn-around-times.Troubleshoots technical and service problems.Prepare bone marrow aspirates and biopsies for analysis, as well as fine needle aspirates per procedure manual.Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results for the following instruments/tests:HematologySysmex XN2000Sysmex CA660Beckman IricellTheratest DSXWet Prep and KOH PrepSynovial Fluid AnalysisSemen AnalysisManual DifferentialsSedimatUrine MicroscopicsMicrobiologyUrine and ThroatCulture testingHemoccult CardDeveloping Rapid Kit Testing: HCG, Strep, Mono, Flu, H. PyloriChemistrySiemens AtellicaAVL Opti CCAMaintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples for procedures described in #2 above.Adhere to quality assurance policies, corrective action policies and preventive maintenance policies for procedures described above.Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.Immediately notify Manager when identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance if problem cannot be corrected.Perform paperwork necessary for departmental requirements.Prepare blood and urine specimens to be sent out to reference labs.Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion.Attend safety classes and other continuing education classes as offered by Physicians East.Maintain proficiency in using the LIS and EMR as required by Physicians East.Performs, verifies accuracy of results, and records both QC function checks and quality control testing within the specified time frame.Oversees all quality control records.Recognizes instrument malfunction and takes actions to resolve problem.
