Registered Behavior Technician (SY 25-26)

Starting Date: Immediately Job Description The Providence Public School District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students in 37 schools, including 20 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 11 high schools, and 2 public district charter schools. PPSD employs more than 3,200 professionals, of whom about 2,000 are educators and over 600 directly support students and families. Our schools are diverse learning communities: approximately 68% Latinx, 15% Black, 7% White, 4% Asian, 5.5% multi‑racial, and 1% Native American; 40% are multilingual; 16% receive special education services; and 55% come from homes where English is not the primary language. The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) will exhibit the knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals, groups, and systems through the application of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The RBT will report directly to the School Administrators and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). RBTs receive individual and group supervision per BACB requirements, attend multiple training sessions throughout the year, and support students during transitions to middle or high school. Education, Training, and Experience High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience (required) Bachelor’s degree in Youth Development, Social Work, Psychology, or Education Practices preferred Active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification through the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB) Description of Duties, Responsibilities, and Curricular Linkages Understand and apply the basic principles of ABA in classroom settings Assess student needs and provide intervention suggestions to redirect behavior Provide 1:1 and classroom‑wide behavioral support Support a positive and safe school culture Evaluate existing behavior programs and create new systems to proactively address school needs Co‑ordinate school partnerships to support student behavior, social‑emotional well‑being, and overall success Implement proactive school and/or classroom‑wide behavior management systems with meaningful incentives and supports Build and maintain positive relationships with students, administrators, faculty/staff, and families Model and coach faculty/staff on positive behavioral supports, restorative practices, function‑based interventions, and classroom management strategies Create and maintain data collection systems, train teams on implementation, and conduct fidelity checks Assist with documentation of student behavior events, plans, and other Student Support Team processes Conduct student‑specific and classroom observations, record ABC data, and report findings Act as a resource to assist staff in understanding and improving behaviors Accurately monitor and analyze student suspension and behavioral incident data and develop supports as needed Serve on the crisis team as assigned Participate in district trainings throughout the school year Attend group and individual supervision meetings with BCBA Execute any other duty assigned by the Director of Student Support Services, Director of SEL/Mental Health, or BCBA Organize school events and town meetings that encourage community connection Work with multiple students, a wide variety of age ranges, across possible multiple sites during the school year Possess the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, use stairs, and move safely Function as a cohesive team member Minimum Qualifications Standards Required Qualifications: At least one year of experience as an RBT or prior experience as a special education paraprofessional Experience working in diverse settings, focusing on families, youth, and/or education Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication, written communication, and analytical skills Creative problem‑solving and strategic thinking skills Highly organized, self‑directed, able to prioritize multiple demands and manage time effectively, and flexible to change Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution and de‑escalation Preferred Qualifications: Understanding of Providence community, organizations, and population Knowledge of Providence School Department Turnaround Action Plan, state and national laws and regulations related to education Experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Knowledge of community resources, social agencies, and external opportunities to promote positive student behavior Knowledge of DCYF reporting procedures and practices Bilingual Spanish proficiency Knowledge of function‑based intervention planning to develop behavior change strategies that reduce problem behavior and increase appropriate behavior Knowledge of research‑based instructional and behavioral strategies and ability to implement them effectively Application Requirements Current resume CV explaining characteristics and experiences that make the applicant a strong fit for the position Minimum of three references BACB RBT certification number EEO Statement Providence Public Schools is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer that is actively seeking to increase minority recruitment among its administrators and teaching staff.
