Student Account Specialist

Unit: Office of Strategic Enrollment Management Department: Student Accounting Department Summary: Serving in an integral role tostudent success at VCU, the Student Account Specialist providesexceptional and timely customer service by phone, email, and inperson to students, parents, third-party representatives, andothers concerning the assessment, billing, and explanation ofstudent accounts. The position processes tuition waivers andreviews and audits student account activity to ensure precisebilling and collection of student account charges (tuition, fees,room, and board). This position provides individual and promptservice combined with accurate and timely billing ultimatelycontributing to the recruitment, success, and retention of studentsat VCU. Core Responsibilities: Student Account Support (50%): Provide effective counsel andguidance on student accounts by responding professionally andaccurately to inquiries. Account Adjustments and Review (30%): Process tuition waivers,provide receipts/statements/audits and review refundrequests. Other Administration (20%): Perform a range of administrationtasks to support Student Accounting procedures and policies such asreport review and attend court proceedings. Other Position Details: Position work is performed primarily on campus, in-person, but hasthe potential flexibility for remote work. Typical work week is Mon- Fri 8 AM - 5 PM. Qualifications: Minimum Hiring Standards: High school degree or equivalent. Customer service experience. Working knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping, or otherfinancial services. Strong attention to detail. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word & Excel) Familiarity with computers in a Windows environment. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environmentof respect, professionalism and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds andexperiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member atVCU. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree Customer service experience in a high volume, fast-pacedenvironment. Customer service experience in a financial (banking or retail)setting.
