Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining and improving industrial production equipment in a fast-paced, highly regulated manufacturing environment. The Maintenance Mechanic performs preventative and predictive maintenance, troubleshoots mechanical and electrical issues, and ensures production lines and converting equipment operate reliably and efficiently. The position requires hands-on work with a wide range of equipment and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on all industrial equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on production and packaging equipment, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Ensure converting equipment and production lines run consistently and efficiently, quickly addressing issues that could impact throughput or quality.
• Carry out repairs on conveyors, photo eye sensors, packaging equipment, labelers, cappers, fillers, pumps, valves, and other industrial machinery.
• Use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators, and multimeters to diagnose problems and verify proper equipment setup and alignment.
• Perform equipment changeovers and setups to support different products and packaging formats, ensuring accuracy and adherence to specifications.
• Participate in manufacturing process improvement initiatives by recommending and implementing technical solutions that enhance reliability, safety, and productivity.
• Document maintenance activities accurately and timely, following facility procedures and regulatory expectations.
• Support compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and FDA requirements by maintaining equipment in a clean, safe, and audit-ready condition.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to minimize disruption during maintenance and to ensure equipment meets operational and quality standards.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 1 year of industrial maintenance experience working with hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, and 3-phase motors.
• Hands-on experience with conveyor maintenance and associated components such as motors, sensors, and drives.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in an industrial environment.
• Proficiency in performing changeovers and setups on production and packaging equipment, including fillers, pumps, and valves.
• Comfort using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, and multimeters.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in repair, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial equipment.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Computer proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Ability to work effectively in a regulated manufacturing environment and follow established procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prefer 3+ years of experience working in a GMP environment.
• Best fit candidates have a minimum of 5 years of related manufacturing experience in an FDA-regulated facility.
• Average fit candidates have approximately 3 years of experience in a non-FDA facility.
• Previous experience in GMP or food manufacturing environments.
• Experience in liquid filling or packaging operations.
• Experience in food and beverage manufacturing is a plus, especially in FDA-regulated settings.
• Familiarity with troubleshooting and maintaining equipment in health, beauty care, or similar process industries.

Work Environment
The facility is a large-scale health and beauty care manufacturing and distribution operation, encompassing nearly a million square feet of production and distribution space. It operates as a liquid filling facility with around-the-clock production five days a week and nationwide distribution seven days a week. The environment is FDA-regulated and follows Good Manufacturing Practices, making prior experience in liquid filling, packaging, or food and beverage production particularly relevant. Employees work around strong product-related odors that may vary by department, including scents such as mouthwash, lotion, and alcohol-based products. The role involves working on and around conveyors, packaging lines, and various automated equipment in a busy, production-focused setting, with an expectation to follow all safety, cleanliness, and regulatory standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Smyrna, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
